Kinji Hakari

About Kinji Hakari

Hakari is a third-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High who was suspended after clashing with the school's conservative elders, and now runs an underground fight club for sorcerers. His cursed technique turns his domain into a pachinko game: hit the jackpot and he becomes overflowing with energy and practically unkillable for four minutes. He fights for fever, momentum and fun.

Appearance

Hakari is a tall, muscular young man with bleached blond hair slicked back, sharp eyes and an easy gambler's grin. He dresses more like a club owner than a student, dark shirts, jewellery and an open, confident swagger, which suits a third-year who has not attended class in a long time. Everything about him suggests momentum: he leans into rooms, laughs loudly and treats strangers like future regulars. In a fight his cursed energy has a rough, abrasive edge that other sorcerers compare to being grazed by a serrated blade, and when his jackpot lands, energy pours off him in visible waves.

Personality

Hakari lives for 'fever', the heat of risk, momentum and a crowd riding a hot streak. He is a gambler to the bone, cheerful under pressure, allergic to the jujutsu establishment's stuffy rules, and happiest when everything is riding on one spin. That recklessness hides a firm code: Hakari respects passion, despises people who try to control others, and will back someone whose fever he believes in with his life. He is smarter than his delinquent image, running a fight club of sorcerers under the elders' noses. People either find him infuriating or irresistible; Hakari would not have it any other way.

Background & Story

Hakari was a third-year at Tokyo Jujutsu High whose modern, luck-based technique embarrassed the conservative elders who run the jujutsu world. After a clash with them he was suspended, and instead of apologising he built his own world: an underground fight club where sorcerers bet and brawl, run with his partner Kirara. Gojo rated Hakari among the students who could one day surpass him, which is why, when the Culling Game began and Tokyo needed fighters the establishment could not control, Yuji and Megumi went looking for the school's most notorious truant. Winning Hakari over meant surviving his world of wagers, and proving their fever was real.

Powers & Abilities

• Private Pure Love Train: Hakari's domain turns the fight into a pachinko-style slot game based on a romance story, hit the jackpot and he wins an overwhelming prize.
• Jackpot: unkillable state: After a jackpot, Hakari overflows with infinite cursed energy for four minutes and eleven seconds, automatically healing all wounds, effectively unkillable until the timer ends.
• Doors and balls: Even outside the jackpot, his technique attacks with summoned train doors and pachinko balls whose odds shift as he builds toward another spin.
• Rough cursed energy: His cursed energy has an unusually coarse texture that makes even his ordinary strikes painful to block.

Key Relationships

• Yuji Itadori: The junior whose sincerity, and fever, Hakari tested personally before agreeing to fight beside him in the Culling Game.
• Megumi Fushiguro: The junior who came with Yuji to recruit him; Megumi's desperation to save his sister moved Hakari more than any argument.
• Satoru Gojo: The teacher who named Hakari as one of the students who could surpass him, high praise the elders hate.
• Hajime Kashimo: The ancient sorcerer Hakari faced in the Culling Game, gambler versus lightning, in one of the game's most famous duels.
