About Toge Inumaki
Toge Inumaki is a quiet second-year whose Cursed Speech makes his spoken words force anyone who hears them to obey. To keep others safe he speaks almost only in rice-ball ingredients, like 'salmon' and 'tuna mayo.' Behind the high collar and short phrases is a kind teammate who saves his dangerous voice for protecting his friends.
Appearance
Toge is a slim young man with pale platinum-blond hair, violet eyes and a calm, unreadable expression. The most distinctive thing about him is what he hides: the Inumaki clan's cursed seals, a snake-and-fangs mark, sit on his tongue and on both cheeks, so he keeps his mouth covered with a high collar or scarf at all times. He wears the Tokyo Jujutsu High uniform with its tall collar zipped up to his nose. When he does pull the collar down to speak in battle, everyone who knows what his voice can do understands the fight has turned serious.
Personality
Toge seems distant at first, he barely speaks, and what he says is a menu. In truth he is one of the kindest students at Jujutsu High, and his silence is care, not coldness: a careless word from him could hurt someone, so he rationed his own voice down to a safe vocabulary of rice-ball fillings. His classmates read him effortlessly, 'salmon' for yes, 'bonito flakes' for no, and his dry, mischievous humour comes through in timing and expression. In danger he is brave to the point of self-harm, spending his throat raw to shield his friends, then quietly accepting the cough syrup afterwards.
Background & Story
Toge inherited Cursed Speech from the Inumaki clan, a sorcerer family whose powerful technique is also a lifelong hazard, a child with his voice could curse someone by accident with an everyday word. Growing up under that risk shaped his habit of speaking only in harmless rice-ball ingredients, a personal code that keeps everyone around him safe. At Tokyo Jujutsu High he found classmates who treat his silence as normal and his few words as worth listening to. As a second-year he is a semi-grade 1 sorcerer, senior to Yuji's class, and one of the students the school trusts on dangerous missions, the quiet boy whose single sentence can end a fight.
Powers & Abilities
- Cursed Speech: Toge's words are charged with cursed energy: anyone who hears a command like 'stop', 'fly' or 'explode' is forced to obey it.
- Rice-ball vocabulary: To avoid cursing people by accident, Toge speaks only in onigiri ingredients, salmon, tuna mayo, bonito flakes and a few more.
- Rebound and throat damage: Stronger commands recoil on Toge himself, shredding his throat, he carries cough medicine and must ration his biggest words.
Key Relationships
- Yuta Okkotsu: His classmate and close friend, one of the first people at school to understand Toge and fight smoothly beside him.
- Maki Zenin: His classmate; the second-years' blunt leader, whose orders Toge follows without hesitation.
- Panda: His classmate and translator-in-chief, who reads Toge's rice-ball words and expressions for everyone else.
- Yuji Itadori: A junior Toge quickly accepts; despite never holding a normal conversation, the two work together naturally in a crisis.
