Nobara Kugisaki

About Nobara Kugisaki

Nobara Kugisaki is a confident first-year at Tokyo Jujutsu High who left her small hometown to live life on her own terms. She fights with a hammer, nails and straw dolls, using her Straw Doll Technique to damage curses from a distance. Proud, funny and completely unwilling to pretend to be someone she is not, she anchors Yuji and Megumi's trio.

Appearance

Nobara is a young woman of average height with mid-length orange-brown hair, usually worn loose with a fringe, and sharp amber eyes. She wears a modified Tokyo Jujutsu High uniform, a dark jacket, a skirt with tights and a belt that holds her tools, and she takes real pride in her appearance, makeup and shopping even on mission days. Her fighting kit is always on show: a claw hammer, a pouch of long nails and, when things get serious, a small straw doll. Everything about her look says the same thing as her attitude: she refuses to be ordinary.

Personality

Nobara is loud, proud and gloriously unfiltered. She says exactly what she thinks, demands respect as both a sorcerer and a woman, and refuses every attempt, from her village, her school or her enemies, to shrink her into someone smaller. She can be vain and sharp-tongued, but her loyalty is instant and total: Yuji and Megumi become her people within days. Her confidence is not arrogance about talent; it is a promise she made to herself as a girl, that she would stay true to who she is no matter where she ended up. Few characters in the series enjoy being themselves as openly as Nobara does.

Background & Story

Nobara grew up in a small, stifling countryside village where everyone watched everyone else. Two people made it bearable: Fumi, her childhood friend, and Saori, a girl from Tokyo who moved to the village and was eventually driven out by its cruelty. Nobara swore she would leave, make her own life in Tokyo, and meet Saori again as someone she could be proud of. Her grandmother, a sorcerer, recognised her talent and arranged her transfer to Tokyo Jujutsu High. Nobara arrived in the capital with a suitcase, a hammer and zero interest in anyone's expectations, and was thrown straight into missions beside Yuji and Megumi, the classmates who quickly became the first team she ever chose for herself.

Powers & Abilities

• Straw Doll Technique: Nobara's technique works through a hammer, nails and a straw doll, she strikes nails with cursed energy and links dolls to her targets.
• Resonance: By driving a nail through a straw doll connected to a piece of her target's body, Nobara damages the real enemy from any distance.
• Hairpin: Nails she has embedded in an area can be detonated at will, bursting outward in a blast of cursed energy.
• Hammer and nails combat: Up close she fights directly, hammering cursed nails into curses with fearless, brawling aggression.

Key Relationships

• Yuji Itadori: Her classmate and instant partner in chaos, the two think alike, joke alike and trust each other completely in a fight.
• Megumi Fushiguro: Her other classmate; his gloom and her spark bounce off each other, but she respects his judgement without question.
• Satoru Gojo: Her teacher, whose shameless confidence she happily matches; he delights in her attitude.
• Maki Zenin: A senior Nobara admires deeply, a woman who defied a great clan and stayed herself, exactly what Nobara wants to be.
