Riko Amanai

About Riko Amanai

Riko Amanai is a cheerful middle-school girl chosen as the Star Plasma Vessel, the human whose body is fated to merge with the ancient Master Tengen to reset his immortality. Escorted by young Gojo and Geto against the cults who want her dead, Riko faces her fate with more honesty and courage than anyone expects. Her story changes both of her protectors forever.

Appearance

Riko is a slim fourteen-year-old with long dark-blue hair, usually worn with a headband, and bright, expressive eyes. She wears her middle-school uniform, a sailor-style outfit, through most of her story, which makes the world of sorcerers and assassins around her look even more out of place. She is animated and physical in conversation, pointing, pouting and declaring herself with the confidence of a girl who has decided to be special. Next to her tall, strange escorts she looks exactly like what she is: an ordinary schoolgirl carrying an extraordinary fate.

Personality

Riko is proud, theatrical and determined to sound braver than she feels. Told since childhood that she is the Star Plasma Vessel, she repeats that merging with Tengen is her honour and that she will remain herself even afterwards, and mostly believes it. Under the performance she is a lonely girl whose parents died young, raised by her caretaker Misato, who never got to simply be a student with friends. When the performance finally cracks, what comes out is honest and heartbreaking: a kid who wants to live an ordinary life. Her courage is not the absence of that wish, it is how clearly she says it.

Background & Story

Riko was identified as a small child as the Star Plasma Vessel, the rare human compatible with Master Tengen, the ancient sorcerer whose barriers protect Japan. Every five hundred years Tengen must merge with such a vessel or evolve beyond humanity, so Riko's whole life was arranged around that duty, watched over by her caretaker Misato Kuroi after her parents died. When the merger approached, cults and curse users placed bounties on her death, and Jujutsu High sent its two strongest students, Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto, to guard her final days. In their company Riko got a brief taste of the ordinary, school friends, the sea, laughter, and the mission she was part of changed both of her protectors forever.

Powers & Abilities

• Star Plasma Vessel: Riko has no combat technique, her importance is her unique compatibility with Master Tengen, whose immortality must be reset by merging with a vessel like her.

Key Relationships

• Satoru Gojo: One of her two escorts, whose teasing and kindness showed Riko a few days of being treated as a girl, not a vessel.
• Suguru Geto: Her other escort, who listened to her honestly, and whose life was permanently changed by her mission.
• Toji Fushiguro: The assassin hired to kill her before the merger could take place.
