About Portgas D. Ace
Ace is Luffy's sworn older brother and a commander of the Whitebeard Pirates. His Devil Fruit gave him the power to turn into living fire, earning him the name Fire Fist Ace. Proud and reckless, he spent his life searching for a reason that he deserved to be born, and found his answer in the family that chose him. His fate changed the pirate world forever.
Appearance
Ace was a lean, muscular young man with wavy black hair, freckles across his cheeks and a confident grin. He wore an open shirt or none at all, shorts, a red-beaded necklace and his Whitebeard tattoo across his back, with the letters ASCE, the S crossed out, down his left arm. When he fought, his whole body could burst into flame, and his signature punch launched a pillar of fire shaped like a fist.
Personality
Ace was proud, reckless and protective to a fault, polite to strangers, ferocious to anyone who insulted Whitebeard, and unable to leave a slight unanswered. Underneath ran a deep wound: as the son of the Pirate King, he grew up hearing the world say he should never have been born, and he spent his life asking whether he deserved to live. The Whitebeard Pirates gave him his answer, a family that chose him, and Ace's gratitude to them was absolute.
Background & Story
Ace was born in the South Blue as the son of Gol D. Roger, the Pirate King, and Portgas D. Rouge, who died shielding his identity. Raised in the mountains of Dawn Island by the bandit Dadan alongside Sabo and young Luffy, Ace became the eldest of three sworn brothers. At seventeen he set sail, ate the Flame-Flame Fruit, formed the Spade Pirates and rocketed to fame, then challenged Whitebeard, lost, and was invited aboard. For the first time, Ace found a father who wanted him, and rose to command the Whitebeard Pirates' second division. His hunt for the traitor Blackbeard set the great war of Marineford in motion.
