Chopper is the Straw Hat Pirates' doctor, a reindeer who ate a Devil Fruit that gave him human intelligence and the power to change shape. Trained by the eccentric Dr. Kureha, he dreams of becoming a doctor who can cure any disease. Sweet, shy and easily flattered, he is the youngest member of the crew, and, the others joke, its emergency food supply.

Appearance

Chopper is a small reindeer who usually stands in his child-sized hybrid form, a cute, round-cheeked figure with a blue nose, tiny antlers and a large pink hat with a white medical cross. His forms change his body completely: a full reindeer form with big antlers, a tall human form, and many specialised shapes in between. He carries a doctor's backpack and, in his huge Monster Point, towers over buildings with long arms and a shadowed face.

Personality

Chopper is sweet, naive and easily flustered, compliments make him dance and deny them happily at the same time. Raised between worlds, he spent years believing he was a monster, so the crew's acceptance means everything to him. As a doctor he is utterly serious: no patient is turned away, and he will face monsters many times his size to protect the sick and injured. He is also the crew's youngest at heart, delighting in games, stars in his eyes and Usopp's stories, which he believes completely.

Background & Story

Chopper was born on snowy Drum Island, a reindeer with a blue nose who was shunned by his herd. After eating the Human-Human Fruit he could speak and think like a human, and was shunned by humans too, as a monster. The quack doctor Hiriluk took him in, named him Tony Tony Chopper, and taught him that a doctor's flag means never giving up on a patient. When Hiriluk died, his partner Dr. Kureha trained Chopper for six years. Luffy, who tried to eat him, then defended the doctor's flag with his own body, invited him aboard as the crew's doctor, and Chopper sailed to become a cure for any disease.

Powers & Abilities

• Human-Human Fruit forms: Chopper switches between reindeer, human and hybrid forms, each with its own strengths for travel, work and fighting.
• Rumble Ball points: His own invention focuses his transformations into specialised forms, guarding, jumping, arm-strength and more, though overuse once made him lose control.
• Monster Point: Chopper's giant form: enormous strength in a towering body. Once berserk and dangerous, he learned to hold it for a short time with a Rumble Ball.
• Medical genius: Chopper diagnoses and treats wounds, poisons and diseases far beyond normal doctors, and created his Rumble Ball drug as a young reindeer.

• Monkey D. Luffy: His captain, the first human who called him a friend and crewmate instead of a monster, and carried his mentor's flag into battle.
• Dr. Hiriluk: The quack doctor who raised him and gave him his name and his dream; Hiriluk's cherry-blossom miracle is Chopper's guiding memory.
• Dr. Kureha: His strict medical teacher, over 140 years old, who finished his training and still calls him her son in everything but name.
• Nico Robin: The crewmate he is closest to aboard ship, Robin treats him gently, and he adores her like an older sister.
• Usopp: His partner in games, panic and tall tales, Usopp's stories are Chopper's favourite entertainment.
