Brook
From One Piece
Brook is the musician of the Straw Hat Pirates and a main character of One Piece. A living skeleton brought back by the Revive-Revive Fruit, he is a master fencer and violinist who waited fifty years to keep a promise. He is voiced by Chō in Japanese and Ian Sinclair in English.
About Brook
Brook is the Straw Hat Pirates' musician, a living skeleton who came back from the dead thanks to a Devil Fruit. He waited alone on a ghost ship for fifty years, holding on to a promise made to a friend he left behind. A master swordsman and violinist, Brook brings music and terrible skull jokes to the crew, and asks every woman he meets the same rude question.
Appearance
Brook is an extremely tall, thin skeleton with an afro he is fiercely proud of, his hair roots survived where nothing else did, dressed in a gentleman's suit, top hat and a cane that hides his sword. His skull has a crack from a long-ago injury, his grin is permanent, and he moves with surprising speed and lightness, able to run across water. In battle his soul can leave his bones entirely, appearing as a ghostly green wisp of himself.
Personality
Brook is a cheerful, theatrical gentleman with terrible manners, he asks women outrageous questions and burps at dinner, then apologises like a lord. Comedy covers real depth: Brook endured fifty years utterly alone among the remains of his friends, and music is how he survived it. He is brave, courteous to enemies, and sentimental about promises. His dream is modest and enormous at once: to sail around the world and play one song for an old friend who has also been waiting fifty years.
Background & Story
Brook was the musician and fencer of the Rumbar Pirates, who sailed the Grand Line fifty years ago playing music for everyone they met, including a baby whale, Laboon, who followed their ship and was left at the Twin Capes with a promise to return. Poisoned weapons killed the whole crew mid-voyage; Brook's Revive-Revive Fruit brought his soul back, but it found his body only after it had rotted to bone. His ghost ship then drifted into the Florian Triangle, where his shadow was stolen and he waited alone for decades, until Luffy's crew found a talking skeleton singing to himself in the fog, and asked him to join before even hearing his story.
