Wendy Marvell

About Wendy Marvell

The Sky Dragon Slayer, raised by the dragon Grandeeney and once a member of the Cait Shelter guild. Wendy joins Fairy Tail as a shy young girl whose healing and support magic saves her friends again and again; she grows steadily braver, learning to fight on the front line and even reaching Dragon Force. Kind, polite and determined not to be protected forever, she shares her life with her Exceed partner Carla.

Appearance

Wendy is a small, slender girl with very long dark blue hair, usually worn loose or in twin tails, and kind brown eyes. She dresses in bright, frilled outfits, dresses with ribbons and arm warmers in her early appearances, and carries herself shyly, hands clasped. The blue Fairy Tail mark is on her right shoulder. In Dragon Force, her hair turns pink and feather-like wings of air form at her wrists and ankles, turning the timid girl into something unmistakably draconic.

Personality

Wendy arrives in the story apologising for taking up space. She hides behind Carla, speaks softly, and treats every room like she might be asked to leave it. Then the jobs start stacking up. A fight here, a poisoning there, a war or two, and somewhere along the way the girl who hid behind her cat is stepping forward on her own, healing people under fire and throwing down with monsters. Her kindness isn't decorative. She's the team's healer and she feels other people's pain like a personal assignment. She also keeps score, quietly, against the other Dragon Slayers. Being the smallest one just makes her determined to catch up.

Background & Story

Wendy was raised by Grandeeney, the Sky Dragon, who taught her Sky Dragon Slayer Magic, the power to heal wounds, cure poisons and command the wind. Grandeeney vanished on the same day as every dragon, 7 July X777, leaving the small girl alone until a travelling boy, Jellal, in truth his counterpart Mystogan, found her and left her with the Cait Shelter guild. Cait Shelter was itself an illusion maintained for her sake, and when it dissolved she was invited to Fairy Tail, arriving just in time to help fight the Oracion Seis. In Magnolia she found what Cait Shelter pretended to be: a real guild, a best friend in Carla, and a team that treats her as one of its core.

Powers & Abilities

• Sky Dragon Slayer Magic: Dragon magic of air and healing, Wendy eats air to restore power, breathes gales, and commands the wind in battle.
• Healing magic: The rarest part of her gift: she can mend wounds, draw out poison and cure fevers and motion sickness, though healing drains her heavily.
• Enchantments: She supports the team with enhancement magic, raising speed (Vernier), strength (Arms) and defence (Armor) of her allies.
• Dragon Force: Her Dragon Slayer peak, first reached by eating the ultra-concentrated air of a magic atmosphere, pink hair, feathered wings, and sky magic at full storm force.

Key Relationships

• Carla: Her Exceed partner and best friend, Wendy's protector, conscience and voice of caution since infancy.
• Natsu Dragneel: A fellow Dragon Slayer she looks up to like a big brother, motion sickness and all.
• Jellal Fernandes: The 'Jellal' who rescued her as a lost child was Mystogan using the name, a kindness she never forgot.
