Gray Fullbuster
From Fairy Tail
Gray Fullbuster is a main character of Fairy Tail, an Ice-Make wizard of Fairy Tail, Natsu's lifelong rival, and a survivor of the demon Deliora who fights, eventually, with ice inherited from both his teacher and his father. He is voiced by Yuichi Nakamura in Japanese and Newton Pittman in English.
About Gray Fullbuster
An Ice-Make wizard who shapes weapons and structures from ice, trained by the wizard Ur after a demon destroyed his home village. Gray has an unconscious habit of stripping off his clothes, a fierce rivalry with Natsu and a quiet guilt over his teacher's sacrifice that drives many of his choices. Cool-headed in a crisis and one of Team Natsu's most reliable fighters, he later inherits Devil Slayer magic from his father.
Appearance
Gray is a lean, well-built young man with spiky black hair and dark blue eyes. His most famous feature is an absence: he strips off his clothes unconsciously, a habit beaten into him during childhood training in the snow, so he is regularly found in his underwear mid-conversation. When dressed, he favours a white open shirt or a dark jacket and a necklace with a small sword-shaped pendant. The blue Fairy Tail mark is on his right pectoral. His Ice-Make magic shapes weapons and clones from his hands in a two-handed stance he never breaks.
Personality
Gray thinks before he swings, which on Team Natsu makes him practically a scholar. The rivalry with Natsu runs on ritual: fight on sight, insult everything, then trust each other completely the second a real enemy shows up. What Gray doesn't advertise is the guilt. His teacher Ur died sealing the demon that killed his parents, and he has been quietly trying to repay that debt ever since, usually by volunteering for the most self-sacrificing option available. His friends watch for it. His love life is its own slow disaster. Juvia's feelings are visible from orbit. Gray's are in there somewhere, moving at glacial speed, which is at least on brand.
Background & Story
Gray grew up in a northern village destroyed by the demon Deliora, which killed his parents. The ice wizard Ur took the furious boy in, training him alongside Lyon Vastia in Ice-Make magic, training that involved standing half-naked in blizzards, and stuck. When Deliora returned, Ur sacrificed herself, sealing the demon with a spell that turned her own body into the ice of the prison. Gray carried the guilt south to Fairy Tail, growing up under Makarov's eye. Years later the demon's seal, his old rival Lyon, and eventually the father he thought dead all resurfaced, forcing Gray to turn his teacher's ice, and his father's Devil Slayer magic, toward the future instead of the past.
Powers & Abilities
- Ice-Make: Static molding magic, Gray shapes ice into weapons, shields, stairs, cages and whole battlefields, anything his imagination and stance can form.
- Ice-Make: Lance: His classic attack, firing spears of ice from his hands in a volley.
- Ice Devil Slayer Magic: Inherited from his father Silver, black-marked ice that can freeze and destroy demons, eating ice to power up like a Dragon Slayer.
- Iced Shell: Ur's ultimate sealing spell, which turns the caster's body into eternal ice, a technique Gray has been stopped from using more than once.
Key Relationships
- Natsu Dragneel: His eternal rival and closest friend, ice and fire, arguing since they were children, first to each other's side in a real fight.
- Juvia Lockser: The water wizard who loves him openly; their bond grows from her devotion into something he slowly, stubbornly reciprocates.
- Lucy Heartfilia: A teammate he trusts, and whose apartment, like everyone else's, he treats as an extension of the guild hall.
- Erza Scarlet: A childhood guildmate he respects and fears in proper measure.

What magic does Gray use?
Ice-Make, a molding magic that shapes ice into anything he imagines. Later he also inherits Ice Devil Slayer Magic from his father, letting him fight demons directly.
