Erza Scarlet

About Erza Scarlet

An S-Class wizard known as Titania, queen of the fairies, whose Requip magic lets her swap between more than a hundred armours and weapons in an instant. Erza escaped slavery at the Tower of Heaven as a child and carries that pain beneath her strict, disciplined manner. The guild fears her temper and trusts her completely: when Erza gives an order in battle, even Natsu and Gray stop arguing and obey.

Appearance

Erza is a tall, striking woman with long scarlet hair, the source of her surname, and brown eyes, one of them artificial, though few would ever guess. Her everyday armour is the Heart Kreuz set: a steel breastplate, blue skirt and boots, worn as casually as other people wear clothes. In battle she cycles through over a hundred armours in flashes of light: winged plate, flame-resistant gear, a giant-slayer's harness, even a seduction armour she keeps 'just in case'. Her posture is a commander's, straight, certain, and impossible to ignore.

Personality

Erza runs on discipline. She's the guild's rules with a sword collection, and still the only person who can end a Natsu and Gray brawl by walking into the room. Then there's the other Erza. The one who cries at weddings. The one who would commit crimes for strawberry cake and hoards it like dragon gold. Both are real, and the strictness isn't a mask, exactly. She grew up a slave in the Tower of Heaven. Order, armour, expectations: that's how she built herself back up afterwards. She asks a lot of her friends because she knows precisely what they can do. She never asks for anything she wouldn't do first, harder, and at greater cost to herself.

Background & Story

Erza was born in Rosemary Village and enslaved as a child in the Tower of Heaven, a cult's construction project, where she lost her right eye and gained her first family, fellow child slaves, among them Jellal Fernandes. When their rebellion failed she awakened her magic to save them, escaped alone, and carried out their dream of reaching Fairy Tail. In Magnolia she grew from a guarded, armoured girl into the guild's S-Class ace, Titania. The past caught up when Jellal, twisted by darkness, completed the tower, and Erza had to lead her friends back into the place that made her, to end it and free the people she left behind.

Powers & Abilities

• Requip: The Knight: Erza's magic stores over a hundred armours and two hundred weapons in a pocket space, swapped onto her body in an instant, mid-battle, for any opponent or element.
• Heaven's Wheel Armour: A winged armour that summons a storm of up to two hundred swords at once, her answer to armies.
• Adamantine Armour: Her greatest defensive set, with a shield that has blocked a magic cannon's full blast.
• Master swordsmanship: Even without special armour, Erza is one of the strongest swordfighters in Fiore, able to duel S-Class opponents and monsters bare-handed if needed.

Key Relationships

• Natsu Dragneel: A little brother in all but blood, she has disciplined him since childhood and trusts him completely in battle.
• Jellal Fernandes: Her childhood friend from the tower, whose fall into darkness and long road back run through her whole story.
• Lucy Heartfilia: A teammate she protects, advises and occasionally terrifies; Lucy's courage earns Erza's genuine respect.
• Gray Fullbuster: Another of her guild 'brothers', she trusts his judgement and he fears her temper in equal measure.
• Makarov Dreyar: The master who took in a traumatised girl and gave her a guild to belong to.
