Mare Bello Fiore
From Overlord
Mare Bello Fiore is a supporting character in Overlord, Aura's twin brother and fellow guardian of Nazarick's sixth floor, a shy dark elf whose timid manner hides devastating nature magic. He is voiced by Yumi Uchiyama in Japanese and Megan Shipman in English.
About Mare Bello Fiore
Mare is Aura's twin brother and fellow guardian of Nazarick's sixth floor, a shy, stammering dark elf dressed as a girl by his creator. His timid manner hides devastating nature magic, when Mare stops apologising, he can reshape battlefields and bury armies. Ainz treats him gently, which only makes his loyalty fiercer.
Appearance
Mare is a young dark elf with shoulder-length blonde hair and mismatched blue and green eyes, the reverse of his sister's, dressed, by his creator's design, in a girl's outfit of skirt and leggings that he wears with permanent embarrassment. He clutches his twisted wooden staff, the Shadow of Yggdrasil, like a lifeline in conversation. Nothing about him suggests what happens when he stops apologising and starts casting.
Personality
Mare is shy, gentle and anxious to please, a stammering child who would rather hide behind his sister than speak to strangers. He is also, when ordered, one of Nazarick's most destructive weapons, and the contrast troubles no one in the tomb except Mare. His kindness is real: he apologises to enemies, worries about the plants in battlefields he is about to bury, and obeys Ainz with a devotion sharpened by gratitude for his master's gentleness.
Background & Story
Mare and Aura were created by Bukubukuchagama as the twin guardians of Nazarick's sixth floor, a matched pair designed with opposite presentations. In the New World Mare serves as the tomb's heavy artillery: his druidic magic reshapes terrain, raises fortifications from bare earth and buries armies where they stand. Ainz, remembering the twins' creator fondly, treats Mare with particular patience, which only deepens the shy guardian's determination to be useful when his master finally calls on him.
Powers & Abilities
- Earth and nature magic: Mare's druid spells crack the earth, raise walls and swallow armies, among the widest-area destruction in Nazarick.
- Shadow of Yggdrasil: His divine-class staff channels his nature magic and serves him in close combat far better than his manner suggests.
- Disaster-class casting: Spells like Petit Catastrophe make Mare Nazarick's siege weapon of choice against cities and armies.
Key Relationships
- Aura Bella Fiora: His twin sister and fellow guardian, who speaks for him, drags him everywhere and shields him from the world.
- Ainz Ooal Gown: His master, whose gentleness Mare repays with total, anxious devotion.
