Gazef Stronoff

About Gazef Stronoff

Gazef is the Warrior Captain of the Re-Estize Kingdom, the strongest human swordsman of his nation and a commoner raised by merit alone. Honourable, warm and utterly loyal to his king, he is everything Ainz respects, and everything standing in Nazarick's path. His choices at the Katze Plains define the meaning of loyalty in Overlord.

Appearance

Gazef is a tall, powerfully built man with short dark hair and a weathered, honest face, usually in the full plate armour of the Warrior Captain with the kingdom's treasures, including the sword Razor Edge, at his side. He looks like a soldier from a recruitment poster for a better kingdom than the one he serves: broad, scarred, warm-eyed and completely without pretension.

Personality

Gazef is honourable, warm and utterly loyal, a commoner who rose on merit in a kingdom run by nobles who despise him for it, and who serves his king anyway without bitterness. He is everything Ainz respects in a human: brave, honest, protective of his men and incapable of bending. That integrity is also his tragedy, because Gazef's code leaves him exactly one answer when Ainz offers him service in exchange for his army's lives, and the whole story knows he will give it.

Background & Story

Gazef Stronoff was born a commoner and fought his way to Warrior Captain of the Re-Estize Kingdom, the nation's highest military office, carrying its state treasures into battle. When the Slane Theocracy's forces corner him at Carne Village, a mysterious undead caster named Ainz Ooal Gown saves him, a debt Gazef never forgets. As Nazarick's power grows and the kingdom marches to the Katze Plains, Gazef stands as the kingdom's shield and its conscience, the man against whom Overlord measures what human loyalty is worth.

Powers & Abilities

• Razor Edge: Gazef's treasure sword can cut through armour as if it were cloth, one of the kingdom's national treasures he is trusted to carry.
• Martial arts mastery: Techniques like Sixfold Slash of Light make Gazef the strongest warrior the kingdom can field.
• Command: As Warrior Captain he leads the kingdom's armies and inspires fierce loyalty in his troops.

Key Relationships

• Ainz Ooal Gown: The undead who saved his life and later offers him a place at his side, the respect between them is real on both sides.
• Brain Unglaus: His former rival, who becomes his comrade in the kingdom's last campaigns.
