Brain Unglaus

About Brain Unglaus

Brain is a genius swordsman who once rivalled the kingdom's Warrior Captain, until a single encounter with Shalltear shattered his confidence and his worldview. He spends years rebuilding himself as Climb's teacher and Gazef's comrade. His story is the human side of Overlord: what it costs a proud man to stand up again in a world of monsters.

Appearance

Brain is a lean swordsman with unkempt blue hair and sharp eyes, usually in worn travelling clothes with his katana close at hand. In his mercenary prime he carried himself like the kingdom's next legend; after his fall he looks like what he is, a talented man rebuilding himself in cheap lodgings, one technique at a time, with the haunted focus of someone who has seen the top of the mountain and been thrown off it.

Personality

Brain is proud, abrasive and honest about his own talent, he was a genius and knew it. Shalltear changed him in seconds: she caught his ultimate technique on a fingernail, and the knowledge that such a gap existed broke something in him. What makes Brain remarkable is the rebuild. Instead of drinking himself to death, he becomes Climb's teacher and Gazef's comrade, finds reasons to swing a sword that are not about being the strongest, and keeps polishing one impossible technique, a strike that might, one day, reach a monster.

Background & Story

Brain Unglaus rose as a self-taught sword genius whose talent rivalled Gazef Stronoff, the kingdom's Warrior Captain, and wasted his prime as a mercenary leader with nothing to believe in. Hired for a job in a cave near a village, he met Shalltear Bloodfallen, and learned in one exchange how far he was from the world's real heights. Brain fled, broken, and rebuilt himself in the capital as a teacher and ally to the knight Climb and his old rival Gazef, standing with the kingdom as Nazarick's shadow falls across it.
