Cocytus

About Cocytus

Cocytus is the insectoid guardian of Nazarick's fifth floor, a four-armed warrior who freezes the air around him. Unlike many guardians, he is honourable to the core, respecting brave enemies and learning from defeat. His campaign against the lizardmen teaches him what command really costs, and Ainz trusts him to grow into a true general.

Appearance

Cocytus is a towering insectoid warrior with a mantis-like head, four muscular arms, a long tail and an exoskeleton of icy blue crystal that vents freezing vapour with every breath. He carries legendary blades, he can hold four at once, and the floor he guards, a glacier, suits him exactly. Despite the monstrous shape, his posture is that of a disciplined soldier at attention, awaiting his master's orders.

Personality

Cocytus is honourable to the core, a warrior's warrior in a tomb full of schemers. He respects brave enemies, mourns worthy opponents, asks his master honest questions and takes defeat as instruction rather than shame. His campaign against the lizardmen, where Ainz deliberately lets him learn command by first allowing failure, becomes his making: Cocytus grows from a duellist who happens to hold rank into a general who understands what ordering others to die actually costs.

Background & Story

Cocytus was created by Warrior Takemikazuchi, one of Ainz's guildmates, as the guardian of Nazarick's frozen fifth floor, a swordsman NPC built around the romance of the perfect warrior. In the New World he serves as one of the tomb's military commanders, and Ainz entrusts him with the lizardmen campaign precisely so he will learn to lead. Cocytus's growth, and his respect for the lizardmen's courage, whose champions he honours even in victory, makes him the guardian Ainz trusts to become a true general.

Powers & Abilities

• Four-armed swordsmanship: Cocytus wields multiple divine blades at once, including the God Slaying Emperor Blade, with a master's technique.
• Freezing aura: His body radiates intense cold, freezing his surroundings and weakening enemies who close with him.
• Warrior's judgement: His honour and battlefield reading make him a natural commander, a talent Ainz deliberately develops.

Key Relationships

• Ainz Ooal Gown: His master and teacher in command, whose trust Cocytus strives to deserve.
• Aura Bella Fiora: His fellow guardian, whose energy in joint operations contrasts with his solemn discipline.
