Shun Izuki

About Shun Izuki

Shun Izuki is Seirin's starting point guard, a calm second-year whose 'Eagle Eye' lets him see the whole court at once and steer the offence. Off the court he is famous, and dreaded, for his endless puns, which he writes down in a notebook. Not a prodigy, Izuki wins with positioning, timing and nerve; his steadiness lets Kuroko and Kagami take their risks.

Appearance

Izuki is 174 cm with straight black hair, calm dark eyes and an unruffled expression that barely changes whether Seirin is winning by twenty or losing by two. He wears Seirin's number 5 jersey. His game looks as composed as he does: head up, ball protected, passes arriving exactly on time. The only cracks in the calm are his puns, delivered with total confidence to groans all round, and the small notebook he carries everywhere to write new ones down.

Personality

Izuki is steady, thoughtful and dryly funny, at least in his own opinion. He is not a prodigy and knows it; his answer has always been positioning, timing and nerve. As Seirin's point guard he absorbs pressure so the scorers do not have to, and in the team's biggest games his ball-handling holds up against defenders far more gifted than him. Around his teammates he is the relaxed older brother, defusing tension with wordplay so bad it works. His steadiness is a skill Seirin leans on more than the stat sheet ever shows.

Background & Story

Izuki played with Hyuga and Riko in middle school and joined Kiyoshi's new Seirin club from the start, becoming its point guard. In the team's first year he experienced the same Winter Cup humiliation as the other founders, and he trained through it, developing his Eagle Eye court vision until he could run the offence against national-level guards. Facing players like Kasamatsu and Takao, whose abilities outshine his, Izuki survives on craft: protecting the ball, choosing the right pass, and never once losing his head. He is the model of what Seirin's basketball is for, a normal player who, through work and nerve, stands on the biggest court in the country.

Powers & Abilities

• Eagle Eye: Izuki can take in the whole court at once from a mental bird's-eye view, letting him find open teammates and safe passing lanes under pressure.
• Ball Security: His careful dribbling and decision-making let Seirin's offence survive full-court pressure from much quicker guards.

Key Relationships

• Junpei Hyuga: His captain and backcourt partner since middle school, the straight man to Izuki's puns.
• Riko Aida: His coach and old friend, one of the few people who can shut down a pun streak with a look.
• Kazunari Takao: Shutoku's Hawk Eye guard, their meeting is a duel of the two best court-vision players outside the Miracles.
• Yukio Kasamatsu: Kaijo's captain, whose speed Izuki has to solve with positioning rather than athleticism.
