Shintaro Midorima

About Shintaro Midorima

Shintaro Midorima is Shutoku's shooting guard, a Miracle whose high-arcing three-pointers have, by his creed, a one hundred percent success rate, fired from anywhere, including full court. Obsessed with fate, horoscopes and his daily lucky item, he insists his perfection is simply doing everything humanly possible and leaving the rest to destiny. Behind the arrogance is relentless discipline; his rivalry with Kagami drives some of the series' finest duels.

Appearance

Midorima is a tall, lean 195 cm with green hair, green eyes and glasses, and he tapes the fingers of his left hand, his shooting hand, with obsessive care. He wears Shutoku's number 6 jersey. His shot has the highest arc in the series, the ball hanging in the air long enough for him to turn and walk back on defence before it drops through. Off court he is never without the day's lucky item from the Oha Asa horoscope, however ridiculous, a frog statue, a rolling panda, carried with complete seriousness.

Personality

Midorima is proud, precise and utterly committed to his philosophy: do everything humanly possible, and leave the rest to fate. His horoscope rituals and lucky items are not laziness, they are the superstition of a boy who has eliminated every other variable through work. He speaks bluntly, dismisses players he considers unserious, and was genuinely offended by Kuroko's choice of weak Seirin. Yet Midorima respects effort wherever he finds it, mentors his partner Takao in his own severe way, and his rivalry with Kagami, the one player who keeps blocking the unblockable shot, forces him to grow past his creed's limits.

Background & Story

Midorima was the Generation of Miracles' shooter at Teiko, where his perfect accuracy made him a starter among prodigies. At Shutoku, one of Tokyo's three king schools, he pairs with point guard Takao, whose Hawk Eye feeds him the ball anywhere. Seirin meets him in the Interhigh preliminaries, where his full-court shots seem like a magic trick, until Kagami's jumping growth finds the one answer. Midorima's story across the series is a slow education: in the value of teammates who cover his weaknesses, in acknowledging a rival, and in learning that doing everything humanly possible sometimes includes trusting the pass instead of the stars.

Powers & Abilities

• Perfect Three-Pointers: Midorima's shooting accuracy is effectively perfect when his form is set, his high-arc shots do not miss in normal play.
• Full-Court Shot: His range has no limit: Midorima can launch a three-pointer from his own basket's end of the court and score.
• Sky Direct Shot: Working with Takao, Midorima catches a high pass already in shooting position and releases instantly, making his shot nearly impossible to time or block.

Key Relationships

• Kazunari Takao: His Shutoku partner, the Hawk Eye guard whose passes find him anywhere, and the one person allowed to tease him daily (usually from the rickshaw Takao pedals for him).
• Taiga Kagami: His great rival, the only player who has blocked his shot, which Midorima cannot forgive or forget.
• Tetsuya Kuroko: His former Teiko teammate; Midorima openly disapproves of Kuroko's basketball yet respects his conviction.
• Seijuro Akashi: His Teiko captain, the one Miracle whose judgement Midorima never questions.
