Kazunari Takao

About Kazunari Takao

Kazunari Takao is Shutoku's point guard, a first-year whose 'Hawk Eye' sees the entire court at once, including the one player almost nobody can see, Kuroko. Cheerful, sly and endlessly amused by his partner Midorima's superstitions (he pedals the rickshaw cart Midorima insists on riding), Takao is the counter-weapon other teams wish they had: a guard who can mark the phantom. His duels with Kuroko turn Shutoku's matches into games of eyes against invisibility.

Appearance

Takao is 176 cm with black hair worn in a casual, slightly messy style and narrow, amused eyes that always seem to be in on a joke. He wears Shutoku's number 10 jersey. On court his head never stops moving, he plays like a driver checking every mirror at once, because his Hawk Eye genuinely shows him the whole floor. Off court he is most often seen pedalling the rickshaw cart Midorima insists on riding in, grinning through the indignity like it is the best joke in the world.

Personality

Takao is playful, perceptive and tougher than his grin suggests. He chose Shutoku partly for the fun of playing beside Midorima, and he treats his severe partner's rituals with affectionate mockery, while working as hard as anyone to make their combination unstoppable. His Hawk Eye is both gift and burden: in middle school it was not enough to stop the Generation of Miracles, and that memory drives him. Takao hides disappointment well, but his competitiveness is real, especially against Kuroko, the one opponent whose whole game is built to defeat eyes like his.

Background & Story

Takao was a talented middle-school guard whose team was crushed by Teiko's Miracles, and he entered Shutoku, one of Tokyo's king schools, in the same year Midorima arrived. Their pairing was immediate: Takao's court-wide vision feeding the perfect shooter. When Shutoku faces Seirin, Takao becomes the first defender who can genuinely mark Kuroko, turning their matches into a duel of eyes against invisibility. Through the series he grows from Midorima's cheerful support into one of the finest non-Miracle guards in the country, and the emotional core of Shutoku, the partner who makes the fate-obsessed shooter trust a human being with his perfect shots.

Powers & Abilities

• Hawk Eye: Takao sees the entire court at once, wider even than Izuki's Eagle Eye, which lets him track every player, including the near-invisible Kuroko.
• Precision Passing: His passes are threaded to exactly where Shutoku's plays need them, including the high feeds that set up Midorima's Sky Direct Shot.

Key Relationships

• Shintaro Midorima: His partner and favourite target, Takao pedals his rickshaw, mocks his lucky items and delivers the passes his whole game depends on.
• Tetsuya Kuroko: The one player built to beat his Hawk Eye, their duels are games of vision against disappearance.
• Shun Izuki: Seirin's Eagle Eye guard; the two court-vision players recognise each other instantly.
