Rokuro Kiriyama

About Rokuro Kiriyama

Rokuro Kiriyama is one of Shiki's Rasetsu Academy classmates, a nervous young Oni whose anxiety follows him onto every battlefield. His blood power is tied to his unease, which makes him unpredictable to enemies and allies alike. Away from combat he is gentle and easily flustered, and his classmates have learned to look out for him, while Rokuro slowly learns that courage means fighting while afraid, not after the fear goes away.

Appearance

Rokuro is a slight, anxious-looking teenager whose expression is usually somewhere between apology and alarm. He fidgets, flinches and startles at his own shadow, a presentation so at odds with battlefield work that enemies consistently underestimate him, which, given what his anxiety does to his blood, is a genuine tactical error.

Personality

Rokuro is gentle, earnest and afraid, and he fights anyway, which is the whole point of him. His classmates have learned to look out for him, and he is slowly learning the lesson his power keeps teaching: courage is not the absence of fear, it is acting while the fear is still there. Off the battlefield he is sweet and easily flustered, the class's little brother in spirit.

Background & Story

Rokuro Kiriyama enrols at Rasetsu Academy in Shiki's class as one of the Oni students training for the war against the Momotaro. His Blood Eclipse Release is bound to his emotional state, his unease feeds it, which makes him one of the class's most unpredictable fighters and one of its most vulnerable people. Surrounded by classmates who protect him without patronising him, Rokuro's growth across the academy's battles is measured in moments: each time he stands his ground while terrified, he becomes a little more the soldier his friends already believe he is.
