Neji Hyuga

About Neji Hyuga

Neji is a gifted ninja from the Hyuga clan's branch family, and Hinata's cousin. His Byakugan eyes and precise Gentle Fist strikes make him one of the strongest young ninja in the Leaf. Neji begins the story believing fate decides everything, but facing Naruto in the Chunin Exams slowly opens his mind to choosing his own path.

Appearance

Neji is a poised young man with long black hair tied loosely at the back, the pale, featureless eyes of the Byakugan, and a forehead protector that hides the branch family's cursed seal. He wears the Hyuga's flowing white and beige robes in battle, moving with a dancer's economy, every rotation and strike placed exactly where his eyes tell him a chakra point waits.

Personality

Neji begins the story brilliant and bitter: convinced that fate is fixed at birth, because his own life was decided for him, branch family, cursed seal, a father sacrificed for the main house. He is cruel to Hinata because she represents that cage. Naruto's victory over him cracks the belief: a boy with every disadvantage beat the genius by refusing fate's script. The Neji who emerges is calm, loyal and selfless, a prodigy who chooses his own meaning for his life, and ultimately, how he will spend it.

Background & Story

Neji was born into the Hyuga branch family, the servants and shields of the main house, and branded at age four with a cursed seal that let the main family control, and kill, him at will. When he was small, his father Hizashi was given up to die in place of the clan head, and Neji grew up believing the village and fate itself had scripted his servitude. The strongest genin of his generation, he carried that hatred into the Chunin Exams, crippling Hinata's confidence and lecturing Naruto on destiny, until Naruto beat him, and Hinata's father finally told him the truth about his father's choice. Neji chose freedom inside the cage, and became the Hyuga's bridge across its divided house.

Powers & Abilities

• Byakugan, mastered: Neji's Byakugan is the finest of his generation, near-total 360-degree vision and chakra-point sight refined to a single known blind spot.
• Gentle Fist: Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms: The main house's secret technique, which Neji taught himself from observation alone: sixty-four strikes that seal an enemy's entire chakra network.
• Eight Trigrams Palms Revolving Heaven: A dome of spinning chakra that deflects any attack, another main-house technique Neji reverse-engineered, proof of his genius.
• Eight Trigrams Vacuum Palm: Neji strikes at range with a focused blast of chakra aimed precisely at a target's vital points.

Key Relationships

• Hinata Hyuga: His cousin, once the target of his resentment, he became her fiercest protector and the person who most believed in her growth.
• Rock Lee: His teammate and self-declared rival; the 'failure' whose effort Neji learned to respect more than talent.
• Might Guy: His teacher, whose warmth gradually thawed the coldest student in the village.
• Naruto Uzumaki: The boy who defeated his philosophy along with his body, Neji calls him the person who freed him from darkness.
• Hizashi Hyuga: His father, whose death defined Neji's childhood, and whose freely made choice, once revealed, defined Neji's freedom.
