Itachi is Sasuke's older brother, once praised as the Uchiha clan's greatest young talent. He is introduced as the man who destroyed his own clan and joined the criminal group Akatsuki, becoming the target of Sasuke's lifelong revenge. Calm, quiet and almost impossible to read, Itachi hides far more behind his Sharingan eyes than anyone first understands.

Appearance

Itachi is a slender young man with long black hair tied low, sharp lines under his eyes from years of strain, and the red Sharingan, later the patterned Mangekyo, behind a calm, distant expression. He wears the Akatsuki's black cloak with red clouds, a Leaf headband with a slash through the symbol, and a ring on his right ring finger. He moves minimally and speaks quietly, which somehow makes him the most frightening person in any room.

Personality

Itachi is gentle by nature and a monster by assignment, a pacifist who committed the series' worst atrocity to prevent a greater war. He thinks in decades and sacrifices, carries every sin personally, and lies to everyone he loves for their own protection, especially Sasuke, whom he deliberately made hate him. Whether Itachi is a villain, a hero or a victim depends on who is telling the story, and that ambiguity is the point: he is the weight Sasuke, and the Leaf, must learn to carry honestly.

Background & Story

Itachi was the Uchiha's greatest prodigy, chunin at ten, black-ops captain at thirteen, and a double agent caught between his clan's planned coup and the village he loved more. Ordered to choose, he chose the village: in one night he ended the Uchiha clan, sparing only his little brother, and fled as a traitor to join the Akatsuki, secretly watching them for the Leaf and protecting Sasuke from the shadows his whole life. Everything Sasuke believes about that night is true except the reason. Itachi's plan for his own death at Sasuke's hands was meant to make his brother a hero; what it actually unleashed took a world war to untangle.

Powers & Abilities

• Mangekyo Sharingan: Itachi's awakened eyes grant Tsukuyomi, a genjutsu world where he controls time itself, the inextinguishable black flames of Amaterasu, and Susanoo.
• Susanoo's legendary weapons: Itachi's spectral armour wields the Totsuka Blade, which seals anything it pierces, and the Yata Mirror, which nullifies any attack, a near-perfect offence and defence.
• Genjutsu mastery: Itachi can trap enemies in illusions with a single finger, a glance, or a flock of crows, many fights against him end before the victim knows one began.
• Shuriken and fire mastery: His throwing technique is legendary even among Uchiha, and his Fire Style is the clan's art at its peak.
