About Hoshizaki
Hoshizaki is the young officer from the Cabinet Office's paranormal bureau who scouted Sasaki after mistaking him for a psychic. Professional, sharp and slightly overworked herself, she becomes his partner on cases involving people with supernatural powers in modern Japan. She has no idea her middle-aged colleague crosses worlds with a talking bird after hours, and keeping that secret from her is one of Sasaki's hardest ongoing jobs at the bureau.
Appearance
Hoshizaki presents as a sharp, professional young officer, neat, brisk and all business in bureau settings. The surprise, which Sasaki learns early, is that the composed agent is actually a sixteen-year-old schoolgirl working far above the age her confidence suggests.
Personality
Hoshizaki is professional, sharp and slightly overworked, with a career agent's focus that makes her an effective partner and a dangerous colleague for a man with secrets. She takes the bureau's mission seriously, trusts results, and pushes Sasaki to deliver them, never suspecting that his 'psychic power' is neither psychic nor his only job.
Background & Story
Hoshizaki works for the Cabinet Office's Paranormal Phenomena Countermeasure Bureau, the secret office that monitors and recruits people with psychic powers. After Sasaki used magic to save a stranger, her, she concluded he was a psychic and recruited him, becoming his partner on cases involving rogue psychics in modern Japan. Her own psychic gift lets her control liquids, though she cannot create water from nothing, which makes Sasaki's icicle magic a useful complement in a fight. Keeping his other world, his restaurant and his talking bird secret from his own partner is one of Sasaki's hardest ongoing jobs.
Powers & Abilities
- Liquid control: Hoshizaki's psychic power lets her control liquids, a strong combat ability with one limit: she cannot create water from thin air, so she relies on nearby liquid, or on Sasaki's icicles.
Key Relationships
- Sasaki: Her bureau partner, whom she recruited after mistaking his magic for a psychic power, the colleague whose secrets she is closest to and furthest from.
- Akutsu: Her section chief at the bureau, who assigns her and Sasaki their cases.
