Happosai

About Happosai

Happosai is the ancient, diminutive founder of the Anything-Goes school of martial arts and the teacher of both Genma Saotome and Soun Tendo, who sealed him in a cave for ten years for very good reasons. A shameless lecher who steals underwear for energy, he is also genuinely one of the strongest fighters in the series. His arrival in any episode guarantees explosions, chaos and despair.

Appearance

Happosai is a tiny, wizened old man barely taller than a child, with a bald head, wispy beard and a pipe, usually carrying a sack of stolen underwear. His size is the last thing anyone should judge him by.

Personality

Happosai is lecherous, selfish and gleeful about chaos, treating Nerima as his playground. He is also a true grand master: cunning, experienced and capable of flattening his former students whenever he feels like teaching a lesson.

Background & Story

Happosai founded the Anything-Goes school and taught both Genma Saotome and Soun Tendo, who eventually sealed him in a cave under a boulder for ten years to escape his behaviour. Freed by accident, he moves into the Tendo home, declares Ranma his heir, and resumes stealing underwear across Nerima for energy. Every appearance mixes real menace with farce: the old master can outfight the whole cast and would rather use that power to raid a girls' locker room.

Powers & Abilities

• Anything-Goes grand mastery: As the school's founder, Happosai is one of the strongest fighters in the series, with aura techniques and battle experience spanning generations.

Key Relationships

• Genma Saotome: His former student, who helped seal him away and now suffers his return.
• Soun Tendo: His other former student, equally guilty and equally punished.
• Ranma Saotome: The heir he chose for Anything-Goes, and his favourite sparring victim.
