Gauche Adlai is a supporting character in Black Clover, a Black Bulls mirror mage whose entire world is his little sister Marie, and whose slow journey toward valuing anyone else is one of the squad's strangest growth stories. He is voiced by Satoshi Hino in Japanese and David Trosko in English.
About Gauche Adlai
Gauche is a Black Bulls mirror mage whose whole world revolves around his little sister Marie, whose photograph he carries everywhere and praises constantly. Cold and rude to almost everyone else, he fights with reflected clones and mirror beams of real power. Slowly, missions with the squad teach him that other people can be worth protecting too, not only Marie.
Appearance
Gauche is a tall, lean man of 180 cm with shaggy light-brown hair covering one eye, and in place of the other, a mirror embedded in his face, the tool and symbol of his magic. He wears his Black Bulls robe over dark clothes and carries, at all times, photographs of his sister Marie, which he produces at the slightest provocation. His Mirror Magic fills battlefields with reflective copies of himself, each one firing beams, until the enemy cannot tell which surly brother is real.
Personality
Gauche will tell you himself: he's rude, he's selfish, and he doesn't care what you think about it. Refreshing, in a way. He joined the Black Bulls for the pay cheque and stayed because they leave him alone. The one crack in the armour is his little sister Marie, who he worships with an intensity that's played for laughs and is also, plainly, the only soft thing in a life that began with his parents' deaths, disinheritance and prison. So the story keeps asking him an uncomfortable question. Can a man who built himself around one person learn to make room for a few more? Watching him step in front of a teammate, insulting them the whole time, is the answer arriving early.
Background & Story
Gauche was born noble and orphaned young; a relative stole the family fortune, and he and his baby sister Marie ended up in poverty, then separated, Marie to a church orphanage, Gauche to crime and eventually prison for theft. Yami Sukehiro recruited him straight out of custody, in one of the captain's classic gambles. As a Black Bull, Gauche's pay goes to Marie's orphanage and his days off to visiting her. The elf reincarnation crisis put his body in an enemy's hands and his sister in danger, forcing the squad to fight for the man who had never once fought for them, and Gauche, returned to himself, finally began to understand what they had been telling him.

- Mirror Magic: Gauche creates mirrors that reflect attacks, generate beams of light, and produce full copies of himself or others to overwhelm and confuse enemies.
- Mirror Brigade: An army of Gauche copies, each able to cast, surrounding the enemy in a hall of mirrors with no safe angle.
