About Garfiel Tinsel

Garfiel is the guardian of the Sanctuary, a fierce young demi-human who can transform into a huge tiger and who attacks anyone trying to free the barrier, to protect the mother he believes abandoned him. Loud, loyal and simpler than he pretends, he becomes one of Subaru's most dependable fighters once his fear is faced down.

Appearance

Garfiel is a short, powerfully built young man of about fourteen with messy blond hair, green eyes, fangs and a scar across his face, dressed in rough clothes with a necklace of beast fangs. In his transformed state he is a massive golden tiger large enough to fight armies. Even human, he moves like a caged animal, all coiled energy, bared teeth and volume.

Personality

Garfiel is loud, aggressive and simpler than he pretends, he mangles proverbs, bluffs constantly and cries at sentimentality he claims to despise. His hostility to outsiders is a shield: he guards the Sanctuary because he believes his mother abandoned him and his sister there, and that the outside world only takes things. Facing that fear, that he is the one who has been hiding, turns the Sanctuary's guard dog into one of Subaru's most dependable fighters and friends.

Background & Story

Garfiel is a quarter-demi-human boy raised in the Sanctuary, the hidden village of mixed-blood people protected by a barrier that traps them inside. As its self-appointed guardian he attacks anyone trying to break the barrier or free the village, believing the outside world destroyed his family. When Subaru and Emilia arrive for the Sanctuary's trials, Garfiel becomes their fiercest obstacle, until the truth about his mother's fate, and his own fear of the world beyond the barrier, finally break through his defences.
