Future Trunks
From Dragon Ball Super
Future Trunks is a supporting character in Dragon Ball Super, Vegeta and Bulma's son from a ruined timeline, a swordsman who grew up under the androids' terror and crossed time itself to save his world. He is voiced by Takeshi Kusao in Japanese and Eric Vale in English.
About Future Trunks
Future Trunks is Vegeta and Bulma's son from a ruined timeline, a swordsman who grew up under the terror of the Androids and travelled back in time to save his world by changing the past. Polite, serious and battle-worn beyond his years, he carries hope as a duty rather than a feeling. His warnings reshaped the timeline, and his courage inspires the fighters he saved.
Appearance
Future Trunks is a tall, well-built young man with lavender hair, worn long and tied in his youth, cropped short in Super, sharp features inherited from Vegeta and his mother's colouring. He wears Capsule Corporation jackets and, in his ruined era, worn survival clothes, always with his broadsword strapped across his back. There is a soldier's economy to him: polite, precise, and tired in a way his peaceful younger self never will be.
Personality
Future Trunks is the saga's most courteous warrior and its most traumatised: raised in an apocalypse, he apologises while fighting for his life and measures hope as a duty rather than a feeling. Everything the main timeline takes for granted, parents alive, a sky full of friends, he lost before adulthood, and his politeness is the discipline of a boy who became his world's only defender as a teenager. What defines him is endurance without bitterness: Trunks loses his world, his timeline and nearly everyone in it, and still chooses, every single time, to protect the next one.
Background & Story
Future Trunks was born into a timeline where Goku died of a heart virus and the androids murdered every other Z Fighter, leaving the boy to be trained by Gohan, his master, brother and last friend, whose death sent him back in time to warn the past and save his future. He succeeded for everyone but himself: returning home, he destroyed his androids and Cell, and rebuilt for twenty years, until Goku Black came, a god wearing Goku's face, and murdered his mother and nearly his world. Trunks crossed time again, fought beside his father and Goku as a peer, and watched his entire universe erased to stop the immortal Zamasu, leaving with Mai to build a new life in a new timeline, carrying two worlds' worth of loss with a soldier's quiet.
Powers & Abilities
- Swordsmanship: Trunks' broadsword is his signature, a blade that sliced Frieza and his army apart in seconds and anchors his fighting style in every era.
- Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan Rage: The golden form came to him in grief as a boy; in Super, his unique Rage form, blue aura inside gold, lets him stand, briefly, beside gods.
- Galick Gun and Masenko: His father's beam and his master's technique in one arsenal, Trunks fights as the living bridge between Vegeta and Gohan.
- Spirit energy: the sword of hope: In his final battle, the surviving humans' hope gathers into Trunks' blade as a Spirit Bomb-like sword, the attack that cuts Zamasu's immortality in two.
- Burning Attack and Finish Buster: His rapid hand-sign blast and his most powerful energy wave, perfected across two apocalypses.
Key Relationships
- Son Gohan (Future): His master and only friend of his youth, the Gohan of the ruined world, whose death defines Trunks' life and whose technique he still fires.
- Bulma (Future): His mother, the genius who built the time machine and died defying Goku Black, Trunks' strength is her engineering and her nerve.
- Vegeta: His father, who barely knew him in the future, in Super, the two finally fight side by side, and Vegeta's respect is earned at full price.
- Mai (Future): His partner in the resistance and in life, the soldier who stood with him when the world ended twice.
- Son Goku: The hero of his mother's stories, whose death doomed Trunks' world, fighting beside the real Goku is Trunks' strangest healing.
