Beerus is the God of Destruction of Universe 7, a purple cat-like god who has erased planets for billions of years on a whim or a bad meal. Lazy, gluttonous and terrifyingly strong, he wakes from a long sleep chasing a dream of a Super Saiyan God. Earth survives his visit mostly because he discovers its food, and Bulma's temper, are worth keeping around.

Appearance

Beerus is a tall, slender, hairless purple being resembling an ancient Egyptian cat, long pointed ears, gold eyes with a permanently unimpressed stare, and a feline face that yawns more than it threatens. He wears the formal dress of a God of Destruction: a black, blue and gold collar and sash in Egyptian style, baggy trousers and gold jewellery, with a long tail that betrays his moods. Even his pyjamas are famous, he has slept in them for decades at a time.

Personality

Beerus is laziness and annihilation in one person: a gourmet who destroys planets over pudding, naps for geological eras, and treats the universe as his pantry. Yet he is not evil. Destruction is his cosmic office, balanced against creation, and Beerus performs it with a connoisseur's detachment rather than cruelty. What makes him fascinating is what Earth does to him: the food delights him, the mortals amuse and occasionally impress him, and the destroyer finds himself, to his visible irritation, invested. His temper remains an extinction-level event; his patience, once earned, is surprisingly real.

Background & Story

Beerus has served as Universe 7's God of Destruction for hundreds of millions of years, appointed and trained alongside his attendant Whis, sleeping in a floating temple and waking to cull planets so life can renew. Thirty-nine years before Super, a dream, delivered by the Oracle Fish, promised him a rival: the Super Saiyan God. Waking in the present age, Beerus tracked the Saiyans to Earth, interrupted Bulma's birthday party, and fought Goku through the sky, sparing the planet in the end partly out of respect, partly out of exhaustion, and partly, as Whis observes, because Earth's food had already conquered him. The destroyer became the saga's unlikely neighbour, referee and final exam.

• Hakai (Destruction): Beerus' signature: a touch or gesture that erases a target from existence entirely, body and, for mortals, soul, the authority of a God of Destruction.

• Ultra Instinct (partial): Beerus has trained in the angels' technique and can use an incomplete version, his body dodging on instinct, one reason even gods tread carefully.
• God of Destruction's authority: Beerus can erase places, people and energy itself, seal beings away, and stands immune to most mortal and divine tricks of his universe.
