Trunks
From Dragon Ball Z
Trunks is a supporting character in Dragon Ball Z, the young son of Vegeta and Bulma, Goten's best friend, and one half of Gotenks. (He is not the time-travelling Future Trunks, who is the same person from a ruined future.) He is voiced by Takeshi Kusao in Japanese and Laura Bailey in English as a child.
About Trunks
The young son of Vegeta and Bulma, not to be confused with the time-travelling Future Trunks. Spoiled, confident and full of mischief, kid Trunks trains hard to keep up with his best friend Goten and to make his proud father notice him. Their fusion, Gotenks, is Trunks's big moment in the Buu saga. Growing up as Saiyan royalty and Capsule Corporation heir at once, he mixes Vegeta's pride with Bulma's brains.
Appearance
Young Trunks is a small, confident boy with lavender hair worn in a bowl cut, Bulma's colouring on Vegeta's sharp features, usually dressed in a green gi or Capsule Corporation casual clothes. He carries himself like tiny royalty: chin up, smirk ready. Fused as Gotenks, he and Goten share one cocky, muscular child's body with a wild two-tone mane.
Personality
Trunks is the spoiled prince of two empires, Saiyan royalty and the richest family on Earth, and it shows: confident, mischievous, competitive and used to winning. Beside easy-going Goten, Trunks is the schemer and the braggart, desperate in particular for one person's approval: his father's. Vegeta's pride is the sun Trunks orbits, and the Buu saga's most surprising tenderness comes from that pursuit, a hug, a sacrifice, and a boy who learns what his father's pride actually costs. With Goten, though, he is simply a kid: fusion poses, invented attacks and all.
Background & Story
Trunks was born to Vegeta and Bulma in the uneasy peace before the androids, and grew up in the Capsule Corporation compound, rich, doted on, and trained by a father who showed love as standards. At eight he was already a Super Saiyan, keeping the form secret to enjoy surprising Vegeta. When Majin Buu threatened the world, Trunks and Goten were fused into Gotenks as Earth's last comic-relief hope, and Trunks received the moment he had chased his whole short life: his father, who had never embraced him, held him, minutes before Vegeta walked out to die. Trunks carried that through the final battle, fighting beside Goten as the world ended and was remade.
Powers & Abilities
- Super Saiyan: Trunks reached the golden form by age eight, training in the gravity room, and hid it from Vegeta just to enjoy the reveal.
- Fusion: Gotenks: With Goten, Trunks forms Gotenks, the fusion's swagger, showmanship and terrible naming sense are mostly Trunks.
- Buster Cannon and Finish Buster: Trunks' signature ki blasts, a charged two-handed beam with more power than a boy his size should hold.
- Swordsmanship (later): Growing up, Trunks takes to the sword like his future self, training under Gohan's influence in peacetime.
Key Relationships
- Vegeta: His father, the approval Trunks wants most in the world, earned in the Buu saga's defining embrace.
- Bulma: His mother, whose brains, money and fearlessness he inherits along with her hair.
- Son Goten: His best friend, rival in everything and fusion partner, Goten is the brother Trunks chose.
- Son Gohan: The older brother figure Trunks looks up to, in another timeline, Gohan was his only master.
- Majin Buu: The monster whose rampage forced Trunks to grow up in a single day, and the enemy his father's sacrifice was meant to stop.
