Quick Answer

One Punch Man is a superhero parody anime about Saitama, a hero so strong he wins every fight in one punch and is bored by it. It has 36 episodes so far, Season 1 (Madhouse, 2015), Season 2 (J.C.Staff, 2019) and Season 3 Part 1 (2025), plus 13 OVA specials, with Season 3 Part 2 announced for January 2027.

About One Punch Man

Saitama is a hero for fun who trained so hard he can end any fight with a single punch, and now the strongest man alive is bored out of his mind, hunting for a worthy opponent and a good supermarket sale. With his eager cyborg disciple Genos at his side, he drifts into the Hero Association, a professional league where heroes are ranked from C to S and monsters keep escalating. One Punch Man began as ONE's rough webcomic in 2009 before Yusuke Murata's spectacular manga remake made it a global hit. Madhouse animated Season 1 in 2015; J.C.Staff took over for Season 2 (2019) and Season 3, whose first cour aired in late 2025, with Part 2 announced for January 2027. Between the comedy (King, the 'strongest man on Earth' who is actually a terrified gamer) and the rising threat of the hero hunter Garou and the Monster Association, the series keeps asking what being a hero is even for.

One Punch Man is a TV anime from 2015, first released in Fall 2015. It belongs to the Action and Comedy genres and is listed as a completed series. The summary above is written by the AnimeYug team in our own words.

Story & Plot

Three years of a brutally simple routine (100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats and a 10 km run, every day) left Saitama bald and able to destroy any enemy with one punch. Now he saves the world between grocery trips, unrecognised and unfulfilled. After cyborg Genos witnesses his power and begs to become his disciple, the two join the Hero Association and climb its ranks: Saitama from the bottom of C-Class, Genos straight into S-Class. Around them, the hero world is a fame game of rankings, sponsors and rivalries, from the earnest cyclist Mumen Rider to the psychic powerhouse Tatsumaki.

The joke darkens as real threats gather. A prophecy drives the alien conqueror Boros to Earth for the fight of his life; the martial artist Garou declares himself a monster and hunts heroes for sport; and the Monster Association kidnaps a hostage and declares open war, forcing the S-Class into an all-out invasion of its underground base. Season 3 adapts that war (the biggest, strangest battle in the series) while Saitama, as ever, wanders through it looking for a challenge and a missing grocery list.

  • Garou, a villain who wants to be the monster, steals Season 2 and beyond
  • King's bluff, Mumen Rider's courage and Genos' devotion give the parody real heart
  • Yusuke Murata's manga art means every monster design is a spectacle

Who Is It For?

Manga & Source Material

One Punch Man exists in two versions by the same storyteller: ONE's original webcomic and the manga remake drawn by Yusuke Murata.

  • ONE began the webcomic on his own website in 2009; it is still ongoing, passing 160 chapters by mid-2026.
  • The remake, written by ONE and drawn by Yusuke Murata, began on Shueisha's Tonari no Young Jump on June 14, 2012.
  • The remake had reached 37 volumes and about 239 chapters as of July 2026, and is still ongoing.
  • The anime adapts the Murata remake, not the webcomic directly.
  • Viz Media publishes the manga in English; its anime announcement in 2015 helped make Saitama a global pop-culture figure.
