Genos
From One Punch Man
Genos is a main character of One Punch Man, a cyborg whose hometown and family were destroyed by a rampaging cyborg he still hunts. After watching Saitama destroy a monster with one punch, he begs to become his disciple and moves in. He is voiced by Kaito Ishikawa in Japanese and Zach Aguilar in English.
About Genos
Genos is a cyborg whose hometown and family were destroyed by a rampaging cyborg he still hunts. Watching Saitama destroy a monster with one punch, he begs to become his disciple and moves in, diligently recording 'lessons' in notebooks while upgrading his arsenal after every defeat. Earnest to a fault, Genos's blazing loyalty and spectacular losing record make him the series' most devoted straight man.
Appearance
Genos is a tall, lean young man whose body is almost entirely mechanical, polished steel arms with exposed black plating, glowing cores and mechanical joints beneath a sleeveless top and trousers. His face remains human in shape, with blond hair, black sclera and yellow irises that give him a permanently intense stare. Battle damage is part of his look: he is rebuilt so often, with new weapons and sleeker frames, that his silhouette evolves across the series like a product line at war.
Personality
Genos is earnest, intense and literal-minded to a fault, he delivers twenty-word answers in ten thousand words, takes Saitama's grocery advice as martial scripture, and approaches housework with the focus of a weapons system. Beneath the comedy is a survivor driven by revenge: his hunt for the cyborg who destroyed his town is the wound under every upgrade. His devotion to Saitama is total and uncomplicated, and it slowly does what vengeance could not, gives him people to protect in the present instead of ghosts to avenge.
Background & Story
Genos was an ordinary teenager in a small town until a rampaging cyborg destroyed everything, his home, his family and most of his body. Rescued by the scientist Dr. Kuseno, he was rebuilt as a cyborg and has hunted his family's killer ever since, upgrading himself after every defeat. At nineteen he witnesses Saitama flatten the monster Mosquito Girl with a single slap and immediately begs to become the man's disciple, moving into Saitama's tiny apartment, paying the rent, cooking, cleaning and filling notebooks with 'lessons' extracted from Saitama's most mundane statements. The Hero Association ranks him straight into S-Class on entry, making the world's most powerful disciple officially stronger than his master, a clerical error only Genos refuses to find funny.
Powers & Abilities
- Incineration Cannons: Genos' signature weapons are the incineration cannons in his palms and arms, firing concentrated blasts of heat that can vaporise monsters and level buildings.
- Cyborg Body and Upgrades: His mechanical body gives him superhuman strength, speed and sensor systems, and Dr. Kuseno rebuilds him stronger after nearly every defeat, with new arms and weapons for specific enemies.
- Core Overdrive: Genos can push his energy core past its limits for short bursts of extreme power, at the cost of burning out his own body.
Key Relationships
- Saitama: His master, the man whose casual strength Genos worships as the secret to power, and whose apartment, rent and cooking Genos has quietly taken over.
- King: An S-Class colleague Genos respects as a genuine powerhouse, a misunderstanding Genos shares with the entire world.
- Bang: The veteran martial artist who treats Genos as a model disciple, everything Bang's own student Garou was not.
- Tatsumaki: An S-Class senior whose temper Genos faces without his master's immunity, usually at high repair cost.
