Story & Plot

For a hundred years, humanity has lived inside three enormous walls, safe from the Titans, giant humanoid monsters that eat people for no reason. When the Colossal Titan smashes Wall Maria, young Eren Yeager watches his mother die and swears to kill every Titan. He enlists in the military with his friends Mikasa and Armin, and discovers he can transform into a Titan himself.

That power makes Eren humanity's greatest weapon and its biggest question mark. As the Survey Corps ventures beyond the walls, the truth about the Titans, the world outside and Eren's own father unravels into a story far bigger, and far darker, than anyone inside the walls ever imagined.

The basement of Eren's childhood home becomes the hinge of the whole story: what the Survey Corps finds there reframes the war, the walls and Eren himself. From that point on, Attack on Titan stops being a story about monsters at the gate and becomes one about history, hatred and the cycles of violence that people hand down to their children, and whether anyone can break them.
