Levi Ackerman

About Levi Ackerman

Levi is a captain in the Survey Corps and is known as humanity's strongest soldier in Attack on Titan. He is calm, blunt, and incredibly skilled in battle, even in the worst situations. He also has a famous love of cleanliness, which often surprises people who only know his serious side.

Appearance

Levi is a short, lean man, 160 cm, with a wiry, powerful build hidden under his uniform. He has straight black hair in an undercut that falls over a youthful face, narrow grey eyes with heavy shadows under them, and an expression that defaults to cold disinterest. He wears the Survey Corps uniform with a white cravat at his neck, a detail from his past he keeps without explanation. Even off duty he is immaculate, often shown with a cloth over his head and a duster in hand, mid-clean.

Personality

Levi is blunt, unsentimental and famously foul-mouthed, with a dry wit that cuts as cleanly as his blades. He does not waste words on comfort, yet he respects strength, honesty and results, and he carries the deaths of his soldiers heavily, his harshness is partly a refusal to let grief soften his judgement. He is obsessive about cleanliness, holding tea cups by the rim and cleaning rooms in the middle of campaigns. Orders from Commander Erwin are the one authority he follows without question, a trust built over years.

Background & Story

Levi grew up in the Underground, the lawless city beneath the capital, raised in poverty and taught to survive with a knife by the man who found him. His skill drew the attention of Erwin Smith of the Survey Corps, who recruited him, under complicated circumstances, into the regiment that fights Titans outside the walls. There Levi's talent proved extraordinary: he can dismantle Titans faster than whole squads, and he rose to captain, leading the Special Operations Squad of hand-picked elites. As the story begins he is already a legend among soldiers, the standard every recruit measures against and the Corps' sharpest weapon in humanity's losing war.

Powers & Abilities

• Vertical Manoeuvring Gear Mastery: Levi uses his grappling gear with unmatched speed and control, spinning through the air to strike a Titan's nape before it can react.
• Ackerman Strength: Levi's bloodline grants him physical power and reflexes far beyond a normal human's, described as the strength of a hundred soldiers.
• Dual Blade Technique: Levi holds one blade in a reverse grip and attacks in rapid spinning cuts, shredding Titans and enemies in a single pass.
• Thunder Spears: Levi is among the first soldiers to master the Corps' explosive spear weapons, using them against armoured and intelligent Titans.

Key Relationships

• Erwin Smith: His commander and the one man Levi trusts absolutely; Levi follows Erwin's orders even when he questions their cost.
• Hange Zoë: A fellow officer whose Titan obsession exasperates him; beneath the teasing is years of battlefield trust.
• Eren Yeager: The Titan-shifting recruit placed in Levi's squad and custody, whom Levi guards, disciplines and stakes missions on.
• Mikasa Ackerman: A soldier of the same bloodline and nearly his equal in potential, whose devotion to Eren Levi watches carefully.
