Aizen's Zanpakuto creates perfect hypnosis, his plans run a century deep, and his calm politeness never slips, even while betraying the entire Soul Society and building an army of Arrancar. After merging with the Hogyoku he becomes nearly immortal, and even imprisoned, he remains dangerous enough that both sides need him in the final war.
Appearance
Aizen first appears as a mild, scholarly man with wavy brown hair and gentle brown eyes behind glasses, wearing the captain's haori like a kindly teacher. After his betrayal he remakes the image: glasses gone, hair swept back with one strand falling loose, and the white uniform of Hueco Mundo's ruler. The change is deliberately theatrical, the same face, suddenly cold, and later, fused with the Hogyoku, his form shifts through butterfly-like and monstrous stages before settling back into the man, sealed and smiling.
Personality
Aizen rarely lies. He doesn't need to. He just lets you believe the version of events that suits him, and by the time you work out the truth he's three rooms ahead of you. Control is the whole game for him: control of a battle, of a conversation, of himself. He speaks softly to subordinates he's about to spend like chess pieces. He smiles in prison. Strip away the power, the army, the godhood he nearly reached, and he is still, somehow, the most dangerous person in any conversation he joins. The Soul Society sentenced him to thousands of years in the dark. His smugness survived sentencing intact.
Background & Story
For over a century Aizen served as a model officer, rising to captain of Squad 5 while secretly experimenting on the boundary between Soul Reaper and Hollow. He framed Kisuke Urahara for his crimes, built an army of Arrancar in Hueco Mundo, and stage-managed events in Karakura Town for years to forge the Hogyoku, an orb that grants the heart's desires. His apparent murder during Rukia's execution crisis was theatre; he left the Soul Society openly, with two captains at his side, and declared war from a throne in Las Noches. The war ended with Urahara's seal and a sentence of thousands of years in the Soul Society's deepest prison, where, in the final war, both sides discover they need him.
