Orihime Inoue
From Bleach
Orihime Inoue is a main character of Bleach, Ichigo's cheerful classmate whose hairpins hold the Shun Shun Rikka, six small spirits that shield, heal and reject events themselves. She is voiced by Yuki Matsuoka in Japanese and Stephanie Sheh in English.
About Orihime Inoue
Orihime Inoue is Ichigo's cheerful classmate, a kind girl with a wild imagination and a famously strange taste in food. After her brother's spirit was saved, her own powers awakened: the Shun Shun Rikka, six tiny spirits who form shields, heal wounds and can reject events. Gentle rather than weak, Orihime stands on the front line of the war to protect the friends she loves.
Appearance
Orihime is a teenage girl with long, flowing auburn hair and grey eyes, almost always seen with two blue flower-shaped hairpins, a gift from her late brother that she never takes off. She wears her school uniform neatly and favours soft, feminine clothes outside it. In battle dress she has worn everything from a Soul Reaper-style outfit to an Arrancar-provided white dress in Hueco Mundo. Her expression is usually an open, sunny smile that makes her easy to underestimate.
Personality
Orihime's head is a strange and wonderful place. She daydreams about robots, puts leeks and sweet bean paste together on purpose, and seems, on first meeting, like the least dangerous person in any room. Look closer. Nobody in her group reads pain faster than she does, and her answer to violence is almost stubbornly her own: don't cause harm, undo it. Her powers literally work that way, rejecting damage instead of dealing it. Soft-spoken is not the same as soft. This is a girl who walked into Hueco Mundo unarmed to buy her friends' safety and sat in captivity without giving her captors the satisfaction of seeing her break.
Background & Story
Orihime grew up in Karakura Town in a broken home, raised in practice by her older brother Sora, who ran away with her and supported them both. Sora died in a car accident when she was twelve, and the hairpins he bought her became her most treasured possession. When Sora's lingering spirit was twisted into a Hollow and then saved by Ichigo, the grief and danger awakened her own power: the Shun Shun Rikka, spirits born from her hairpins. She joined the rescue of Rukia, trained for the winter war, and was taken to Hueco Mundo by Aizen's forces because of her unique ability, becoming the prisoner her friends crossed worlds to save.
Powers & Abilities
- Shun Shun Rikka: Six tiny spirits who live in her hairpins and carry out her techniques, the source of all her abilities.
- Santen Kesshun: A triangular shield of light formed by three of the spirits, blocking attacks aimed at her and her friends.
- Soten Kisshun: Her healing technique, two spirits form a dome over the wounded that rejects damage, restoring even destroyed limbs by turning back the event itself.
- Koten Zanshun: Her one attack: a single spirit flies out as a cutting projectile, powered more by her resolve than by strength.
Key Relationships
- Ichigo Kurosaki: Her classmate and the person she loves most; protecting him, and being protected by him, drives much of her story.
- Rukia Kuchiki: A close friend and confidante who treats Orihime's feelings with complete seriousness.
- Uryu Ishida: A classmate and fellow rescuer of Rukia who quietly watches over her in battle.
- Yasutora Sado: They trained together under Yoruichi and their powers awakened side by side.
