Yasutora Sado

Yasutora Sado

From Bleach

Quick Answer

Yasutora Sado, 'Chad', is a supporting character in Bleach: Ichigo's tall, quiet classmate whose Fullbring armours his arms, one to shield and one to strike, and who only ever fights to protect others. He is voiced by Hiroki Yasumoto in Japanese and Alain Mesa in English.

About Yasutora Sado

Ichigo's tall, quiet classmate, nicknamed Chad, whose enormous strength hides a gentle heart. Sado made a promise to his grandfather never to use his fists for himself, only to protect others. His Fullbring armours his arms, one to attack, one to defend, and awakens fully in Hueco Mundo. Loyal to the point of stubbornness, he is usually the first friend standing beside Ichigo when a fight begins.

Appearance

Sado is the tallest of Ichigo's friends, a broad, heavily built teenager with dark skin, wavy brown hair that falls over his eyes and a calm, unreadable face. He usually wears his school uniform or plain shirts, with a coin pendant from his grandfather at his neck. When his power wakes, his right arm armours itself in black and magenta plating; his left arm later takes the shape of a great shield marked with a horned design, the two halves of his promise made visible.

Personality

Chad doesn't say much. When he does speak, it's because he's decided the words matter. His grandfather taught him what his strength was for, and he has organised his entire life around the lesson: his fists are not for himself, ever, only for other people. So he's the one standing in front of the blast before anyone's finished deciding what to do. There's a dry humour in there that catches people off guard, and an embarrassing soft spot for cute things. But mostly there's the loyalty. He once walked straight at a captain of the Gotei 13, fully aware of how that fight ends, because his friend needed the time.

Background & Story

Sado was born in Japan and raised for a time in Okinawa and then Mexico by his grandfather, Oscar Joaquin de la Rosa, after losing his parents. Bullied for his size and his looks, the young Sado fought constantly, until his grandfather taught him that his strength existed to protect, sealing the lesson with the coin Sado still wears. Back in Karakura he met Ichigo in middle school; the two made a pact, sealed in a street fight, to take punches for each other. When a Hollow attack put his friends in danger, Sado's dormant Fullbring awoke in his right arm, and he has stood on the front line beside Ichigo ever since.

Powers & Abilities

  • Brazo Derecha de Gigante: His right arm's armoured form, the 'right arm of the giant', built for devastating punches charged with spirit energy.
  • Brazo Izquierda del Diablo: His left arm's true form, the 'left arm of the devil': a shield-shaped armour made for defence, and the stronger of the two.
  • El Directo: His finishing strike, all of his arm's power poured into one straight, explosive punch.

Key Relationships

  • Ichigo Kurosaki: His best friend since middle school; their pact to fight for each other is the foundation of Sado's power.
  • Orihime Inoue: They trained together under Yoruichi, their powers awakening side by side.
