Rinka Hayami is Chiba's counterpart: the class's top markswoman, cool, precise and sparing with words and praise alike. Where others panic, Hayami adjusts for wind. Her partnership with Chiba, built on total trust and almost no conversation, delivers some of the series' most satisfying operations, and her rare moments of softness, usually involving cats, are treasured by the whole class.

Appearance

Hayami is a slender girl with shoulder-length reddish hair and a calm, unreadable expression. She has the stillness of a born shooter: where others fidget, Hayami waits. Her rare soft moments, usually involving cats, catch the whole class off guard, and she guards them fiercely. Behind a rifle she is transformed: focused, economical and utterly unhurried.

Personality

Hayami is reserved, honest and hard on herself. She does not waste praise, including on herself, and a missed shot stays with her. Under pressure, though, she simply adjusts for wind and fires again. Her partnership with Chiba runs on mutual trust rather than talk, and her dry, occasional remarks land all the harder for their rarity.

Background & Story

Hayami emerged from 3-E's training as the class's finest markswoman, specialising in moving targets where Chiba specialises in range. The two became the shooting pair trusted with operation-deciding shots. When Hayami's confidence was shaken by failure, it was her classmates, and her own stubborn standards, that rebuilt it, and she returned to the line as reliable as ever.
