Kaede Kayano is the cheerful, pudding-obsessed girl who names Koro-sensei and befriends Nagisa on day one. Small, warm and apparently harmless, she is the emotional glue of the class, which makes her secret the series' biggest twist: her real identity, her tentacle implants and her reason for entering 3-E reframe everything. Her arc asks what revenge does to the person carrying it.

Appearance

Kayano is one of the smallest students in 3-E, standing just 146 cm, with light green hair worn in distinctive twin tails shaped a little like cat ears, and bright hazel eyes. Her round, expressive face and constant smile make her look like the least dangerous person in the room, an impression she happily leans into. She wears the school uniform neatly and is often seen with snacks close at hand. Pudding is her great passion: giant puddings, pudding traps and pudding-based assassination plans all feature in her year, and her eyes light up at the mere mention of dessert.

Personality

Kayano is bright, friendly and quick to support anyone who is struggling. She befriended Nagisa on her first day, fixed his hair into pigtails and has been his cheerful partner in class life ever since. She is also surprisingly determined: when she commits to a plan, especially an assassination built around an enormous pudding, she sees it through with real ingenuity. Kayano plays the role of the class's sunny mascot so well that few people stop to wonder about her past, and she prefers it that way. What shows through is simple: she genuinely loves her classmates and her strange teacher.

Background & Story

Kayano transferred into Class 3-E at the start of the school year and immediately made herself at home, befriending Nagisa and giving their unkillable teacher the name everyone now uses: Koro-sensei. She joined the class's assassination efforts with enthusiasm, contributing ideas, groundwork and one famously oversized pudding bomb. Beyond that, Kayano keeps her own history close to her chest, and her classmates know surprisingly little about where she came from before 3-E. What they do know is her loyalty: she shows up for every class plan, every trip and every friend who needs her, asking for nothing in return.
