Ichi Mezato
From Mob Psycho 100
Ichi Mezato is a supporting character in Mob Psycho 100, Salt Middle School's ambitious newspaper reporter, forever first on the scene with a camera and a theory as she tracks the growing Psycho Helmet phenomenon. She is voiced by Ayumi Fujimura in Japanese and Abby Trott in English.
About Ichi Mezato
Ichi Mezato is Salt Middle School's ambitious newspaper reporter, always first on the scene with a camera and a theory. She tracks the Psycho Helmet religion from joke to city-wide phenomenon, interviewing Mob without realising her classmate is its centre. Sharp, opportunistic and ultimately principled, she represents the ordinary world watching the espers' battles from the outside, and trying to tell the truth about them.
Appearance
Ichi is a sharp-featured girl with bobbed dark hair and an ever-present camera or notebook. She dresses in the Salt Middle School uniform but carries herself like a professional on assignment, leaning in, eyebrows up, already framing the quote. Her expressions shift fast between sweet interviewer charm and naked journalistic hunger, which is exactly the joke and exactly her strength.
Personality
Ichi is ambitious, perceptive and cheerfully ruthless about getting her story, steering conversations with flattery and traps alike. She is also, when it counts, principled: faced with a phenomenon she could exploit, she chooses to report honestly. She represents the ordinary city watching the espers' hidden war leak into public view, and her outsider curiosity gives the series some of its best grounded perspective.
Background & Story
Ichi runs the school newspaper almost single-handedly and is always hunting the story behind Salt Middle School's weirdness. When a joke religion around a masked 'Psycho Helmet' figure starts spreading through the city, Ichi connects the rumours, interviews her way toward the centre and finds herself documenting something far bigger than a school scoop, while never realising her quiet classmate Mob is the figure at the middle of it all.
Key Relationships
- Shigeo Kageyama: Her classmate and interview subject, whose connection to Psycho Helmet she circles without ever quite landing on.
- Tome Kurata: A fellow club obsessive whose Telepathy Club activities give Ichi material, and whose dreams Ichi treats more kindly than her usual targets.
