Emma
Emma is a main character of The Promised Neverland, an 11-year-old at Grace Field House who refuses to leave anyone behind. Bright, athletic and a perfect scorer in the house tests, she drives the plan to escape after learning the orphanage's secret. She is voiced by Sumire Morohoshi in Japanese and Erica Mendez in English.
About Emma
Emma is the heart of Grace Field House, an eleven-year-old with boundless energy, perfect test scores and a rule she will not break: nobody gets left behind. When she learns the orphanage is a farm and its children are food for demons, Emma turns her optimism into a weapon, driving the plan to escape with every single child in the house.
Appearance
Emma is a small, energetic 11-year-old with bright green eyes and short, messy orange hair, usually with one longer lock and an ahoge-like tuft. At Grace Field she wears the house's white uniform with brown boots, and her identification number is printed on her neck like every child there. Her face is very expressive, wide smiles, determined glares and tears all arrive quickly, and she moves like an athlete, running, climbing and jumping with ease.
Personality
Emma is warm, optimistic and stubborn about one rule: nobody gets left behind. She loves every child at Grace Field as family and wants a future for all of them, not just the oldest or smartest. She is honest to a fault, quick to trust and quick to forgive, but she is also sharp, she learns fast, reads people well and can act convincingly when a plan needs it. Her hope is practical, not naive: she works, trains and thinks until hope has a route.
Background & Story
Emma has lived her whole life at Grace Field House, a tidy orphanage in a forest, raised by the woman the children call Mom, Isabella. Days there are happy, good food, white uniforms, lessons and daily tests on which Emma, Norman and Ray always take the top scores. Children leave when they are adopted, or so everyone believes, and none ever write back. One night Emma and Norman follow a younger child to the gate and discover the truth the house is built on: Grace Field is a farm, and its children are raised as food for demons. From that moment Emma's happy home becomes a puzzle to escape, a high wall, a forest, tracking devices and a mother who already suspects them. Emma insists the escape must include every child, and the trio begins a quiet contest of plans against Isabella, using the house's routines, tests and tag games as training for the real thing.
Powers & Abilities
- Athletic ability: Emma is one of the fastest and most agile children at Grace Field, able to climb trees and cross the forest at speed.
