About Chrome
Chrome is Ishigami Village's self-taught 'sorcerer', a collector of shiny rocks who, in a world without books, reinvented pieces of science just by wondering. Meeting Senku turns his curiosity into a calling: he becomes the Kingdom's second scientist, proving science belongs to the stone world too. Loud, proud and endlessly inventive, Chrome's dream is simple: to learn everything, and to stand beside Ruri while he does it.
Appearance
Chrome is 170 cm with messy brown hair held by a rope headband, bright earnest eyes and the restless energy of a boy who picks up every interesting stone he passes. He wears village clothes with a pouch for his treasures, minerals, crystals and curiosities he has collected since childhood. His expressions are huge: wonder, outrage, inspiration, all at full volume. Next to Senku's cool confidence, Chrome is science with its heart on its sleeve, and that is exactly his charm.
Personality
Chrome is loud, proud and endlessly curious. Before Senku arrived, he was the village's oddball, filling his hut with rocks and performing 'sorcery' that was really instinctive chemistry. What defines him is what he does with the gap between himself and Senku's 3,700 years of knowledge: he studies, he asks, and sometimes he leaps ahead, reinventing ideas on his own that Senku recognises from history. Chrome's pride is real, but it never stops him learning. His dream is simple and huge: to understand everything, and to one day stand beside Ruri as someone worthy of her.
Background & Story
Chrome grew up in Ishigami Village collecting minerals and experimenting alone, the closest thing the stone world produced to a scientist without ever hearing the word. When Senku arrived, Chrome challenged the outsider's 'sorcery' with his own, and lost, joyfully, discovering that his lifelong hobby had a name and a civilisation behind it. He became Senku's first student and the Kingdom's field scientist: gathering materials, running experiments and making genuine discoveries of his own, including during the quest for the cure that saves Ruri. Chrome's existence is the series' thesis proven, curiosity is not from the old world or the new; it is human.
Powers & Abilities
- Self-Taught Science: Without any teaching, Chrome reinvented real chemistry and physics from observation, and under Senku he grows into a genuine scientist in his own right.
- Mineral Knowledge: His lifetime of collecting stones means he can identify and source the materials the Kingdom's inventions need.
- Field Experimentation: Chrome runs the Kingdom's practical tests and gathering missions, turning Senku's plans into working results outside the lab.
Key Relationships
- Senku Ishigami: His teacher, rival and hero, Chrome measures himself against Senku while slowly becoming his true successor.
- Ruri: The priestess he has loved since childhood, much of his science is, at heart, for her.
- Kohaku: His childhood friend, whose strength he trusts and whose complete lack of interest in his feelings he endures.
- Kaseki: His workshop partner, Chrome's ideas and Kaseki's hands build half the Kingdom together.
