Ah-Duo
Ah-Duo is a former high consort in The Apothecary Diaries, a free-spirited, hard-drinking woman whose past is tangled with the imperial family's deepest secrets. She is voiced by Yuko Kaida in Japanese and Monica Rial in English.
About Ah-Duo
Ah-Duo was a high consort of the previous generation, a free-spirited, masculine woman who drank like a soldier and never fit the rear palace's mould. Her history is tangled with the imperial family's deepest secrets, including a child lost to the palace's machinery of succession. Even after leaving the rear palace, her shadow over Jinshi's life, and Maomao's investigations, never quite disappears.
Appearance
Ah-Duo is a striking woman with a boyish, athletic build, short-cropped practicality in her dress and a bearing more like a soldier's than a consort's. She moves and laughs loudly, drinks openly, and never adopts the rear palace's delicate manners. Even out of favour and out of the palace, she carries herself like someone who was never truly caged by it.
Personality
Ah-Duo is blunt, warm and gloriously unsuited to palace life. She says what she thinks, treats rank as a joke, and forms her loyalties for life. Under the roughness is real grief: she lost a child to the palace's machinery and carries it without self-pity. Her honesty makes her one of the few people Jinshi can relax around.
Background & Story
Ah-Duo was a high consort of the previous generation who entered the palace alongside the late emperor's court and never fit its mould. Her years in the rear palace left her with a lost child and a close, complicated bond with the imperial family that outlasts her time as a consort. By the time Maomao meets her, Ah-Duo has left the rear palace, but her history keeps surfacing in the present court's secrets, especially where Jinshi is concerned.
