Vicious
From Cowboy Bebop
Vicious is a supporting character in Cowboy Bebop, Spike Spiegel's former partner in the Red Dragon Syndicate and the cold heart of Spike's past. He believes only the ruthless deserve to survive, keeps a crow on his shoulder and answers gunmen with a katana. He is voiced by Norio Wakamoto in Japanese and Skip Stellrecht in English.
About Vicious
Spike's former partner in the Red Dragon Syndicate and the cold centre of his past. Vicious believes the world belongs to the ruthless, keeps a crow on his shoulder and fights with a katana against gunmen. He and Spike loved the same woman, Julia, and their friendship ended in betrayal. Calm, patient and utterly without mercy, Vicious spends the series quietly strangling the syndicate from within, waiting for Spike to come back and finish things.
Appearance
Vicious is a tall, gaunt man of 27 and 188 cm, with long silver-grey hair, pale skin and heavy-lidded eyes that seem to look through people rather than at them. He dresses in a long dark coat like a figure out of a funeral, and a black crow habitually rides on his shoulder, completing the impression of a walking omen. Where Spike moves loosely, Vicious barely moves at all, still, contained and patient, which makes his sudden violence feel even colder.
Personality
Vicious is calm, soft-spoken and completely without mercy. He believes the world is a carcass fought over by beasts, and that sentiment is weakness, a creed he applies to enemies, allies and himself alike. Ambitious and patient, he works quietly inside the syndicate, gathering power while others underestimate his stillness. The one crack in the ice is his history with Spike and Julia: the friendship and love that curdled into hatred gives his cruelty a personal edge that no business rivalry could match.
Background & Story
Vicious served in the war on Titan before rising through the Red Dragon Syndicate, where he and Spike Spiegel were partners and close friends under the syndicate's old leadership. Both men became entangled with the same woman, Julia, and when Spike tried to leave the syndicate, their bond shattered into betrayal and blood. As the series begins, Vicious is a senior syndicate figure quietly manoeuvring against its elderly leaders, expanding his power through coups and assassinations, and waiting, with complete patience, for the day his old partner stops running and comes back to finish what they started.

Key Relationships

- Julia: The woman between them: connected to Vicious in the syndicate days, she chose Spike, and the betrayal defines his hatred.
