Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivruski IV, a name Ed invented, is a feral, barefoot child genius from Earth and one of the solar system's best hackers. Ed moves like a cartoon, talks in rhymes and riddles and treats every disaster as a game, but the hacking is deadly serious when the crew needs it. Abandoned in an orphanage by a doting but absent father, Ed chooses the Bebop as family, until the day she walks away from it.

Appearance

Ed is a skinny, gangly teenager with wild, spiky red hair, big amber eyes and red marks on her cheeks, usually barefoot and dressed in a loose white sleeveless shirt and black bike shorts. She wears chunky green goggles pushed up on her head, ready to pull down when she dives into the net. Nothing about Ed stays still: she crawls, rolls, hangs upside down and sleeps in positions no adult spine would allow, moving more like a happy animal than a person, which is exactly how she likes it.

Personality

Ed is pure joyful chaos. She speaks in rhymes, riddles and third person ('Ed will introduce Ed!'), sings to herself, narrates her own actions and treats hijackings and shootouts as games. Adults tend to write her off as a strange child, a serious mistake, because behind the nonsense is one of the sharpest minds in the series, capable of total focus when a hack matters. Ed is also quietly lonely: abandoned as a small child, she adopts the Bebop crew wholesale as her family and loves them with complete, uncomplicated loyalty.

Background & Story

Ed was born on Earth with the name Françoise Appledelhi. Her father, a brilliant but hopelessly absent-minded mapmaker obsessed with charting asteroid impacts, left her at a daycare one day and simply forgot to come back. She grew up in an orphanage, taught herself computers, and built a legend under the hacker name Radical Edward, a figure rumoured online to be everything from an alien to a seven-foot ex-athlete. Living wild and alone, Ed follows the Bebop's exploits as a fan, then hacks her way into a deal: her skills for a place on the ship. The crew gains its strangest member, and Ed gains a home.
