Tomone
From Noragami
Tomone is a supporting character in Noragami, a shinki who quits Yato in the opening story and is renamed Mayu by her new god, Tenjin. Through her, the series shows how shinki judge their gods. She is voiced by Asami Imai in Japanese and Leah Clark in English.
About Tomone
Tomone, renamed Mayu, is a shinki who quit working for Yato in the story's opening days, she could not stand serving a sweaty, homeless god with no shrine. Now serving Tenjin with dignity, she still helps her old master when it matters. Through Mayu, Noragami shows how shinki judge their gods, and how much Yato has changed since losing her.
Appearance
Mayu is a young-looking woman with short dark hair, dressed neatly in Tenjin's household style. As a shinki she becomes a smoking pipe, Tenjin's elegant preference, a long way from her days as Yato's short sword.
Personality
Mayu is proud, practical and blunt about standards: she left Yato because serving a sweaty, homeless god with no shrine was beneath her dignity. She is not unkind, she helps her old master when it truly matters, but she refuses to pretend his life is acceptable.
Background & Story
Tomone served Yato for only a short time before the story begins, and quits on-screen early: three months of a tracksuited, shrine-less god was her limit. Taken in by Tenjin and renamed Mayu, she gains the respectable household she wanted. Her later appearances, advising Hiyori, aiding investigations, show the working relationship between gods and shinki at its most professional, and how much Yato has grown since losing her.
Key Relationships
- Tenjin: Her current god, whose prosperous household gives her the dignity she sought.
- Yato: Her former god, whose growth she acknowledges with professional respect.
