Bishamon, short for Bishamonten, is one of the Seven Gods of Fortune and the strongest war god, feared across the heavens. She shelters dozens of shinki as her family and hunts Yato for an old tragedy she blames on him. Proud and loving but blind to her family's suffering, Bishamon must learn that protecting everyone can destroy the people closest to her.
Appearance
Bishamon is a tall, striking goddess with long blonde hair and violet eyes, usually in a military-style outfit with a cap, or armoured by her many shinki in battle, riding her lion Kuraha, with weapons and tools formed from her family of spirits. Even at rest she looks like a commander reviewing troops she loves.
Personality
Bishamon is proud, loving and commanding, a god who takes in every stray spirit she finds and calls them her children. That love is also her blindness: she cannot see her family's suffering until it erupts, and her grief over a past massacre has fixed into a vendetta against Yato that she refuses to examine. Her arc is about learning that protecting everyone can destroy the people closest to her.
Background & Story
Bishamon is one of the Seven Gods of Fortune, a war god of enormous wealth and power, whose household of shinki is the largest among gods. Long ago, her previous family of shinki was destroyed, and Yato's blade was involved, Bishamon has hunted him for it ever since. In the present she takes in spirit after spirit, including the troubled doctor Kugaha's patients and strays no other god will touch, while her guide Kazuma manages the household and hides how strained it has become. Her story forces the question Yato's story asks from the other side: what does a god owe the dead who serve them?
