Shaiapouf

About Shaiapouf

Shaiapouf, often called Pouf, is one of the Chimera Ant king's three Royal Guards. Elegant, dramatic and utterly devoted, he believes serving Meruem perfectly is his whole purpose, and he schemes constantly to protect the king's dignity as he sees it. His butterfly scales read emotions and spread his influence widely. Pouf's loyalty is so intense that it slowly becomes his greatest weakness and deepest flaw.

Appearance

Pouf is a tall, slender humanoid ant with wavy blond hair, delicate features and large iridescent butterfly wings, usually dressed in a frilled blue shirt and formal trousers that make him look like a court musician. He carries a violin, which he plays during his dramatic monologues. His beauty is real and so is the menace: when his wings shed their scales, the air around him becomes a weapon. His expressions swing between rapture at the King's glory and theatrical despair at anything he judges unworthy of it.

Personality

Pouf is dramatic, scheming and worshipful, devoted not just to Meruem but to his own image of what the King should be, pure, supreme and untainted by human softness. That distinction drives him: he schemes against Komugi, whom he sees as corruption, and manipulates events to steer the King back to Pouf's ideal, even against the King's own wishes. He is intelligent and perceptive, reading emotions through his scales, but his devotion has no room for the King's actual feelings. Pouf loves a god; Meruem is becoming a person, and Pouf cannot survive the difference.

Background & Story

Pouf is the second Royal Guard born to the Chimera Ant Queen, created to serve and advise the King. In East Gorteau he manages the palace's defences and the plan to sort humanity through a forced Nen awakening, while his clones and scales spread his senses across the kingdom. As the King's fascination with Komugi deepens, Pouf's loyalty curdles into secret opposition: he hides information, plots the girl's removal and lies to his fellow Guards, all in the King's name. When the Hunters storm the palace, Pouf's war is fought on two fronts, against the invaders, and against the person his own King is choosing to become.

Powers & Abilities

• Spiritual Message: Pouf's butterfly scales read the emotional state and intentions of anyone who breathes them in, and can hypnotise crowds into obedience.
• Beelzebub: Pouf splits his body into countless tiny segments controlled by his core, letting him spy, travel and survive damage that would kill a whole body.
• Cocoon: Pouf spins cocoons that accelerate the awakening of Nen in humans, used to build the King's army through forced selection.

Key Relationships

• Meruem: The King Pouf worships, or rather, the ideal of the King Pouf worships, which puts him at odds with Meruem's real choices.
• Neferpitou: A fellow Royal Guard whose simpler, personal loyalty to the King Pouf both relies on and resents.
• Komugi: The human girl Pouf sees as the King's corruption and works in secret to eliminate.
