Rak Wraithraiser

About Rak Wraithraiser

Rak is a huge, spear-hurling alligator-like climber who calls everyone he meets 'turtles' and hunts only prey he respects. He joins Bam's team for the sport of it and stays for reasons he would never say out loud. Loud, simple and completely dependable, Rak is the heart of the original team, and stronger than his comedy suggests.

Appearance

Rak is enormous: a three-metre alligator-like warrior with dark scaled skin, a long snout full of teeth, red eyes and a warrior's mane of dark hair, usually in a rough cloak with a spear longer than most men are tall. He can also appear in a compressed, much smaller form, which he hates and everyone else finds adorable. His design is the joke and the truth at once, a prehistoric predator who talks like a sportsman, hunts like a noble and sulks like a child. Nobody in the cast is easier to recognise, or harder to forget, than Rak.

Personality

Rak is loud, simple and completely dependable, a proud hunter with a code of exactly one rule: only prey that fights back is worth hunting. He has no patience for schemes, speeches or self-pity, and his directness cuts through the team's darkest moments like a spear through shinsu. Under the bluster he is quietly perceptive about the things that matter to him: he knows precisely what Bam and Khun are to him, and his loyalty, once given, has no conditions and no exit. He would rather die than say any of this. He shows it instead, every single time, at maximum volume.

Background & Story

Rak Wraithraiser entered the Tower as a spear bearer hunting worthy prey. He measures every living thing as hunter or turtle, and almost everyone is a turtle. On the second floor he fixates on Bam, whose strange power marks him as prey worth hunting, and on Khun, whose trickery offends his sportsman's soul. The team that forms out of that fixation becomes the thing Rak would die before admitting he needed: he stays for the hunt, then for the battles, then for reasons he expresses only by showing up, spear first, whenever his turtles are threatened. His comedy is real, and so is his strength. Rak is descended from the Tower's ancient powers, and his ceiling is far above what his manners suggest.

Powers & Abilities

• Colossal Spear: Rak hurls and wields spears of enormous size with pinpoint pride, a spear bearer's power that can pierce monsters and shinsu defences alike.
• Ancient Strength: Rak's body carries the blood of the Tower's ancient beings: strength, durability and senses far beyond ordinary Regulars, with far more still sleeping in it.

Key Relationships

• Twenty-Fifth Bam: His chosen prey who became his teammate, Rak's loyalty to Bam is expressed entirely through insults, spears and showing up.
• Khun Aguero Agnis: The 'black turtle' schemer Rak argues with constantly, and the partner whose plans Rak trusts with his life, loudly and under protest.
• Yuri Jahad: The princess Rak instantly decides to hunt. Yuri finds the giant alligator hilarious, which Rak finds deeply insulting, which she finds even funnier.
