Mayuri Shiina is Okabe's childhood friend, a gentle, dreamy girl who works at a maid café, sews cosplay and says 'tuturu' when she is happy. She is the lab's warmth, and its tragedy: across countless world lines she dies at the same hour, no matter what Okabe changes. Saving Mayuri drives the entire series, and her quiet acceptance of her fate breaks the loop's heart.

Mayuri is a soft-featured 16-year-old with long black hair, usually in a light blue dress with a matching hat she made herself, or her maid café uniform at work. She carries sewing materials and Upa merchandise happily, and her greeting gesture, a small raised hand with a cheerful 'tuturu', is famous among the lab.
Personality
Mayuri is gentle, dreamy and emotionally perceptive in a way the lab's geniuses are not. She drifts, hums and sews, then says the one kind, exact thing a hurting person needed to hear. She has known Okabe since childhood, understands his mad-scientist act better than anyone and worries quietly about the weight he carries. Her happiness is simple: her friends, her cosplay and afternoons at the lab.
Background & Story
Mayuri has been Okabe's friend since childhood in Akihabara; his Hououin Kyouma performance began, years ago, as a way to pull her out of grief. Now she is Lab Member 002, the lab's hostage-in-name and heart in fact, working at the maid café MayQueen+NyanNyan and sewing cosplay with her friend Faris. When the lab's experiments with messages to the past begin to change the world around them, Mayuri notices less of the science and more of the people, especially Okabe, whose behaviour grows stranger with every change only he remembers.
