Kurisu Makise

Kurisu Makise

From Steins;Gate

Quick Answer

Kurisu Makise is a main character of Steins;Gate, an 18-year-old neuroscience prodigy who has already published in leading journals. Drawn into the Future Gadget Laboratory's experiments in Akihabara, she becomes its real scientific mind and Okabe's sharpest sparring partner. She is voiced by Asami Imai in Japanese and Trina Nishimura in English.

About Kurisu Makise

Kurisu Makise is an 18-year-old neuroscience prodigy who published in top journals while still in her teens. Returning to Japan from America, she clashes with Okabe at a lecture and ends up the Future Gadget Lab's most valuable member, its resident genius and tsundere straight-man, nicknamed 'Christina' against her will. Her research into memory becomes the key to both the time machine and Amadeus.

Appearance

Kurisu is a slender 18-year-old with long, wavy reddish-brown hair and violet eyes. She usually wears a white shirt with a loose red tie, black shorts over leggings and a jacket, soon joined, at the lab, by a white lab coat she pretends not to enjoy wearing. Her expressions run from cool analysis to flustered denial in seconds, usually in response to Okabe.

Personality

Kurisu is rational, curious and proud of her work, a scientist who demands evidence and hates having her feelings pointed out. She argues with Okabe as an equal, mocks his mad-scientist act mercilessly, and is quietly kind underneath: she notices when people are hurting and helps in practical ways while denying she cares. Online she is less guarded, a side of her she would rather the lab never discovered.

Background & Story

Kurisu grew up in the shadow of academic achievement, publishing research on memory while still in her teens and studying in America. Returning to Japan, she attends a lecture in Akihabara, where a strange young man in a lab coat accuses her of things she does not remember, and curiosity pulls her to the Future Gadget Laboratory. There she finds a group of amateurs sitting on an impossible discovery: messages sent into the past. Kurisu's knowledge of the brain and memory makes her the lab's essential scientist, and her insistence on method turns their tinkering into real experiments with real consequences. (Premise only.)

  • Neuroscience expertise: Kurisu is a published prodigy in neuroscience and memory research, whose knowledge makes the lab's time experiments possible to understand and improve.

  • Mayuri Shiina: The lab member whose gentleness disarms Kurisu completely.
  • Itaru Hashida: Fellow lab member; his otaku teasing earns him her best insults.
  • Maho Hiyajo: Her senior colleague and friend from university research, who guards her legacy in Steins;Gate 0.
