Kizuna Kazayama
Kizuna Kazayama is the Hunting Hero of Glass's world in The Rising of the Shield Hero, a cheerful, fishing-obsessed girl freed from an endless labyrinth by Naofumi. She is voiced by Miyu Tomita in Japanese and Lizzie Freeman in English.
About Kizuna Kazayama
Kizuna is the Hunting Hero of her world, a cheerful, fishing-obsessed girl who was trapped in an endless labyrinth for years before Naofumi's arrival. Her weapon can only hunt monsters, never people, which shaped her sunny refusal to join the war between worlds. She becomes Naofumi's guide, friend and proof that her world is worth saving too.
Appearance
Kizuna is a bright, energetic girl with long dark hair tied up high, warm eyes and the grin of someone permanently halfway to a fishing spot. She dresses practically, in the style of her world, and her Hunting Tool, which shifts between forms including a fishing rod and a blade of light, is rarely far from her hands. A small shikigami companion, Chris, is usually nearby. Nothing about Kizuna reads as a legendary hero; she looks like the friend who drags you out of the house on your worst day, which is functionally what she does for Naofumi.
Personality
Kizuna is sunshine engineered by suffering: years alone in a labyrinth should have broken her, and instead she fished, joked and kept her heart open. She is friendly to everyone, curious about everything and incapable of treating people as enemies just because a war says so. Her refusal to fight humans is not weakness, her weapon enforces it, and she built her whole cheerful philosophy around it. For Naofumi, stranded in a hostile world, Kizuna is the first person there who is simply, immediately kind, and her trust teaches him that his second other-world can be a home too.
Background & Story
Kizuna is the Hunting Hero of Glass's world, one of its Vassal Weapon heroes, and she was its prisoner first: trapped for years in an endless labyrinth by her world's enemies, fishing in its artificial seas to survive and stay sane. Naofumi, thrown into that same labyrinth, finally gives her a way out, and the two escape together. Because her Hunting Tool can only hunt monsters, never people, Kizuna never joined the war between worlds in her heart; she becomes Naofumi's guide to her world's people, customs and heroes, and living proof that the 'enemy' world is full of people worth saving.
Powers & Abilities
- Vassal Hunting Tool: Kizuna's weapon transforms between hunting forms (rod, blade and more) but it can only harm monsters; against human beings it is completely powerless, by design.
- Monster Hunting Mastery: Years surviving the labyrinth made Kizuna her world's premier monster hunter, with encyclopaedic knowledge of creatures and their weaknesses.
Key Relationships
- Naofumi Iwatani: The fellow prisoner who freed her from the labyrinth. She repays him as guide, friend and proof her world deserves saving.
- Glass: A fellow hero of her world, whose war against Naofumi's world Kizuna never joined in spirit, her friendship with Naofumi challenges Glass's duty.
- L'Arc Berg Sickle: A fellow hero of her world, L'Arc's easy loyalty and Kizuna's cheerfulness are two versions of the same refusal to hate the other side.
