Filo

About Filo

Filo is a filorial who hatched from an egg Naofumi bought, growing into a rare Filorial Queen who can take the form of a cheerful blonde girl. She loves pulling carts, singing and eating almost everything, and fights with wind magic and devastating kicks. Her friendship with Princess Melty gives Naofumi's party its first bridge to the royal family.

Appearance

Filo has two forms. As a filorial she is a large, fluffy white bird like an oversized baby owl crossed with an ostrich, with sky-blue eyes and a carriage harness she wears with pride. As a girl she is small and blonde with wavy waist-length hair, blue eyes, little feathered wings on her back and a white dress with blue ribbons: usually mid-bounce, mid-song or mid-meal. In both forms she radiates appetite and energy; the only still Filo is a sleeping Filo, and even then she is usually dreaming about food.

Personality

Filo is joy with wings: cheerful, musical, hungry and completely without guile. She loves her master, her friends, her cart and her next meal, roughly in that order on any given day. Beneath the childishness she is observant, she understands loyalty and cruelty better than adults expect, and in battle she is ferocious, a queen of her species who fights with wind and kicks that can shatter stone. Her innocence is the party's light: Naofumi protects people partly because Filo believes, completely, that that is what heroes do.

Background & Story

Filo began as an egg in a slave trader's lottery, bought by Naofumi on a whim. She hatched the next day, imprinted on him completely, and grew at filorial speed, within days she was large enough to pull the party's cart, a job she adores. Raised by a hero, she developed beyond any normal filorial: she is a Filorial Queen candidate, able to take human form, speak, use wind magic and understand far more than a monster should. Her cheerfulness is strategic for the party, too: a singing, cart-pulling bird-girl opens doors in villages that a hated Shield Hero never could, and her friendship with Princess Melty becomes the party's first bridge to the crown.

Powers & Abilities

• Filorial Queen Form: Filo shifts between a huge white filorial and a human girl form, keeping her strength and speed in both, the mark of a Filorial Queen candidate.
• Wind Magic: Filo casts wind magic, from gusts that speed the party's cart to cutting air attacks in battle.
• Devastating Kicks: Her legs are her weapons: Filo's kicks, delivered at full filorial speed, can crack monster shells and send enemies flying.

Key Relationships

• Naofumi Iwatani: Her master, who hatched and raised her, Filo's devotion to him is total, and her belief in him keeps his better nature alive.
• Raphtalia: Her big-sister figure in the party, who mothers, scolds and feeds her, usually all three in the same hour.
• Melty Q Melromarc: Her best friend, the filorial-loving princess, a friendship that gives Naofumi's party its first path to the royal family.
